LENOIR COUNTY FAIR DEMOLITION DERBY RULES WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED RULES & REGULATIONS 1. Each driver must submit an entry form upon arrival. 2. All rules and regulations must be observed. Track inspectors reserve the right to approve or reject entries. 3. Only driver and one (1) mechanic (must be 16 years of age or older) will be permitted in the pit area or on track. Wrist bands will be issued and must be displayed at all times. 4. Entry fee is $40. CASH ONLY-NO PERSONAL CHECKS-NO REFUNDS! 5. Driver and mechanic must be present when vehicle is inspected and at the overview meeting. 6. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OR SMOKING ALLOWED IN PIT AREA! Driver or mechanic in violation of these rules disqualifies the entire team. DRIVERS ENTRY 1. Drivers must be 18 years of age and have a valid ID in their possession. 2. All drivers must supply their own cars. Entries limited to one car per driver. 3. All drivers and cars must be entered and at the track two (2) hours before the scheduled starting time of derby. 4. Participants are required to sign a release and waiver of liability and indemnity agreement before entering any restricted area. 5. Your car number will be issued to you upon payment of entry and receipt of entry form. This number must be painted on both the front driver and passenger car doors. PARTICIPATION REGULATIONS 1. Any American-made, full size stock hardtop automobile or station wagon is allowed. No trucks, jeeps, hearses, ambulances, Chrysler Imperials, or compacts will be allowed. 2. All glass and chrome trim and anything that might become imbedded in the track must be removed before bringing auto to the grounds. This includes wheel weights, window glasses, and front end noses composed of fiberglass. Also, car must be cleaned out, including trunk. Any hole in fire walls must be covered. Do not leave broken glass in doors. Windshields and safety air bags must be removed, along with explosive air bag engagement charges. Vehicles with sun roofs may be used as long as a piece of metal is placed in the opening with attachments: screws from the inside out. 3. Tires must be no more than 31” high and no more than 10” wide. NO TRACTOR TIRES. Tires can only be filled with air, no fluids or solids. Tubeless tires may be equipped with tubes. Tires within a tire are considered reinforcements. Remove all wheel balance weights. 4. A maximum of five gallons of gasoline will be allowed. Gas tanks must be in the backseat compartment, covered by a metal firewall. Only unleaded gasoline with a maximum octane level of 93 will be permitted. Boosted or racing fuel will not be allowed. Gas line within the driver’s compartment will be permitted, but must have protective covering (such as inside a pipe or hose). 5. Only one (1) stock battery will be allowed. A maximum of 850 cold cranking amps will be permitted. Batteries may be relocated to the passenger side floor board, but must be mounted and covered. 6. Welding of frame or body seems is not allowed. Any metal plates or strips that are screwed on or welded, other than on the doors, are not allowed. Door can be welded with 2” x 4” flat bar, 2 at each seam. Original body mounts and bolts must be present. No exceptions. No adding threaded rods to replace body mount bolts. A front windshield bar is required and a protective driver’s cage is recommended. The driver cage, which cannot be over 4” in pipe or tubing size, including supports, cannot exceed more than six inches behind the driver’s seat. Driver door may be reinforced. Rear ends can be welded for positive traction. Maximum bumper height is 24 inches center bumper on cars that have not run in previous derby. Judges will use discretion on cars previously run in derbies. Trunk lids should not be welded or bolted down. Only wire or chains are permitted. Factory leaf springs and brackets only – no adding leafs. Auto must have working suspension. 7. Standard exhaust system may be removed or cut off just behind the fire wall. Additional headers, stacks, custom manifolds, etc. are permitted. 8. A 12 by 15 inch hole must be cut into the center of the hood. 9. All fan blades must be removed. The only exception is if your car is equipped with slip clutch fan blade and fan shroud or comes stock with an electric fan and shroud. You may create your own fan shroud out of some type of thin metal material & replace stiff original fans with slip clutch fans. 10. Prior to bringing cars to fairgrounds, radiators must be drained and back flushed of all antifreeze coolants. They can be refilled with water or new naturally biodegradable coolant “Sierra” distributed by Safe Brands, Omaha Nebraska. 11. Safety belts, helmets, impact resistant eye protectors, pants, shirts, and shoes to adequately protect participants are required. If car was equipped with a shoulder restraint system including lap belt, both must be used. Driver may be disqualified at any time if either belt or helmet is removed, driver door is open, or car catches on fire during heat. 12. Driver may maneuver forward or backward. No deliberately ramming a driver’s door is allowed. This can lead to a disqualification. A time limit is set by the judges. If a DRIVER DOES NOT HIT A LIVE CAR WITHIN THE TIME LIMIT this can lead to disqualification. DO NOT PLAY POSSUM. 13. All cars must be removed from the fairgrounds by the owner before the gates close on the day of the derby or owner will be charged for towing and storage. 14. Vehicles must have brakes at all times and boundaries must be observed. Any car going outside of the area boundaries at any time will be disqualified. 15. The derby will be composed of individual heats and one feature with cash and trophy prizes. 16. Any driver not obeying the rules will be disqualified. 17. Decision of the judge is final.
