Course Description With short stories, excerpts of novels, and film adaptations of literary works, this course aims to initiate students into perceiving American culture from the aspects of ethnic diversity and consumer culture. By the end of the semester, you should be able 1. To identify the major elements of the three discussed aspects of American culture. 2. 3. 4. 5. To summarize the main points of texts read in class. To illustrate the similarities and differences between two or more readings. To express how the readings reflect the aspects of American culture. To apply classroom readings to your own real-life experiences. Readings: Handouts Grading Criteria Attendance 10% One absence (whatever the reason) will be excused. One point will be deducted for the second and each of the subsequent absence, regardless of the reasons. One lateness for class will result in a 0.5% loss of points.
