DEPUTY CHILDCARE MANAGER

37 hours per week 52 weeks per year

Support Staff Payscale 3-4, Points 14-19

On a point within the range. Salaries are reviewed annually.

RESPONSIBLE TO:

To assist with the organisation of the College Childcare facilities and premises.

Finance and Customer Services via the Childcare Manager

The post holder will be required to:

1. Assist and support the Childcare Manager in ensuring staff adhere to and implement, relevant regulations and criteria within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) keeping abreast of recent developments, ensuring the setting is compliant at all times. Ensure the provision provides a high quality environment that meets the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds and stages of development.

2. Assist and support the Childcare Manager in ensuring staff adhere to and implement

Nursery policies, procedures, health and safety and relevant legislation, keeping abreast of recent developments within the sector ensuring the setting is compliant at all times.

Share in the responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children within the nursery. Including ensuring relevant safeguarding concerns are recorded and relevant documents completed by staff. Attend any meetings that may be required to support the safeguarding and wellbeing of children within the setting.

3. Assist and support the Childcare Manager in ensuring staff take responsibility for the organisation, preparation and planning of continuous provision ensuring it is of an appropriate nature relevant to individual needs of participating children. This includes the preparation of various resources, art activities, wall displays and enhanced free play etc in line with Government guidance and framework. Ensure children’s individual records reflect appropriate developmental targets and staff are mentored and supported where necessary. En sure tracking is in place and monitored supporting the tracking of children’s progress and support staff to ensure they put in place any additional support that might be required.

4. Assist and support the Childcare Manager in liaising with various departments within the college concerning the development and strategic direction of College Childcare facilities, including the Director of Finance and Customer services.

5. Assist and support the Childcare Manager in liaising with various departments within the college and provide relevant reports to support, maintain and develop provision. Including:

HR for recruitment, induction performance, absence management and staff development.

Finance for budget reports and ensure all financial regulations and procedures are adhered to at all times. Ensuring records are created and maintained to support the collection of fees and end of month reports. The Facilities team, ensuring the provision is developed and maintained in a safe and compliant way.

6. Assist and support the Childcare Manager in liaising with various outside agencies to support the development of provision, including SFYC, OFSTED and local infant/primary schools. By attending local cluster meetings and other support networks to promote and enable the sharing of good practice and professional expertise.

7. Assist and support the Childcare Manager in ensuring and promoting the safety and wellbeing of staff, children and visitors within the setting. In particular the specific roles and responsibilities around H&S, Safeguarding, SENCO and behaviour management.

This could be through liaising with outside agencies, attending support group meetings, coaching, mentoring, training and supporting staff. Identifying and recording relevant concerns and raising these with appropriate agencies, to ensure children and families are able to access the support they need to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children.

8. Assist and support the Childcare Manager in ensuring the high profile of the nursery is promoted and upheld at all times. By showing prospective clients around the facilities, various marketing strategies and working closely with parents to organise fund-raising gifts, activities and events throughout the year;

9. Assist and support the Childcare Manager in ensuring staff mentor and co-ordinate volunteers, students and apprentices who are undertaking placements within our setting.

Liaise with relevant schools and colleges to ensure students are placed appropriately and relevant safety checks are in place. Ensure staff complete relevant reports required to support students completing their placement, liaising with managers and relevant tutors.

10.Support the Childcare Manager by taking responsibility for co-ordinating, identifying and recording of own and the staff teams training and professional developmental needs.

Utilise opportunities to identify, motivate, support and encourage staff through discussion, observation and tracking to ensure their individual and team needs are met. Organise and facilitate regular staff meetings and training sessions, ensuring staff are able to access and attend relevant training that keeps them abreast of developments within the childcare sector.

11.Assist and support the Childcare Manager by taking responsibility for all day-to-day operational matters within the setting. Including being flexible to work in all areas of

Highwood as required ensuring regulations are maintained at all times. Ensure the nursery and its environment is kept safe, secure and clean at all times, make sure any hazards are eliminated or concerns identified and raised with relevant departments/agencies to be rectified as soon as reasonably practicable.

12.Assist and support the Childcare Manager in ensuring the provision of meal/snack preparation is compliant with relevant regulations, ensuring relevant documentation is completed and individual dietary needs adhered to, encouraging a healthy balanced diet across all food provision within the setting..

13.Provide a positive role model and ensure all staff liaise with parents appropriately, ensuring positive communication and encourage parents involvement in the aims of the nursery and in all aspects of their children’s care. Support the setting in gaining feedback from parents to enable the setting to review and improve its performance ensuring we provide the best possible care and provision available.

14.Provide a positive role model and ensure all staff adhere to and respect the nurseries confidentiality policy.

15.Take responsibility for all aspects of the Childcare Managers Job description in her absence, ensuring the nurseries compliance is prioritised at all times and relevant regulations adhered to.

16.Undertake such other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post, which may be reasonably allocated.
