Immigration - CAQ/Study Permit
There are two options concerning immigration:
1. If you are studying for less than 6 months (1 semester), you do not need a Certificat
d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) nor a Canadian Study Permit (Permis d’études). You
simply need to show your acceptance letter and passport at the customs agent in
Canada.
However, please confirm with the nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate whether you
need a general entry visa.
2. If you are studying for more than 6 months (2 semesters), you must file an application
for a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) and a Study Permit (Permis d’études) du
Canada.
You can access more information about the immigration procedures on the following site:
English:http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/forms/search-title/dca-studies.html
Français :http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/fr/formulaires/formulaire-titre/dcaetudes.html
Without the CAQ and permit, you will not be allowed to enter the country. We cannot do
anything to facilitate or to help speed up the process so please apply asap.
French Language courses
If French is not your first language, you will be able to enrol in French language classes tuitionfree. Please note; however, that there is an activity fee of $92 CAN per 3-credit class.
You can also enrol as an exchange student in the 5-week summer intensive French programme
in July-August before the Fall exchange semester with the Faculty of Business. The Intensive
French programme is also tuition-free, but has an activity fee of around $400.00 CAN. There is a
place to check this on the application.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions. We look forward to
welcoming you in beautiful Quebec City!
Best regards,
Patrick Hurley, Valérie Caron and the Student Welcome Committee
