Classroom management was largely secure although some aspects might have been more
efficiently managed, for example the monitoring and collection of homework was slow
A well planned lesson – individual needs were well detailed and a range of support strategies was
used in practice as well as on paper
Learning outcomes were discussed with the class carefully and some reflection on learning from
last lesson was evident. Did all pupils understand the intended learning?
Activities well organised and monitored. Discussion with small groups also encouraged reflection
on the process and the skills required – this was very good assessment for learning
The re-focus activity could have been developed further to help pupils identify their next steps

Planning is almost always of good quality and always submitted in advance for discussion and
approval, as seen in the TP File. Rarely are changes required
Learning outcomes are always shared with classes using appropriate language. More recently,
Jane has ensured that pupils understand the learning outcomes and refers to them throughout
the lesson to help guide pupils to determine their own learning and progress. This has been an
important development
Jane uses a range of assessment for learning strategies and this has helped her teaching to be
more focused. Jane is also aware of the impact of these developments and her Weekly Review
sheets and evidence in her Professional Development Profile (PDP) reflect this
List below the Teachers’ Standard(s) observed during the lesson:
S6b make use of formative and summative assessment to secure
pupils’ progress
S2c guide pupils to reflect on the progress they have made and
their emerging needs
Agreed formative feedback
grades following discussion:
EMB (likely to be ENH by the
end of the placement)
EMB
Agreed Targets for Trainee:
 Develop assessment for learning discussions with individuals during class activities to ensure that
they understand their own progress
 Use summative assessment (assessment of learning) information in planning subsequent lessons
more explicitly and explore ways to use this information with pupils to support further learning
