You will do a 5 minute class presentation on your topic. You will have 4 classes to do
research and to prepare your power point presentation. Give the main points of your
presentation on the slides. You should include images, graphs, video links, statistics, etc.
in your presentation

Point form info on the slides-no full sentences. no more than 5 points per slide

1. Changes in women’s fashion styles over time. Look from the 1800s to today. How
& why has it changed, look at the major changes that brought it about-like WWII, change
in gender roles-why, Look at the styles and modesty of the dress styles.
2. Internet dating: discuss how it has changed the way dating happens, why did
develop, who uses it, and the pros and cons. Are they successful marriages?.Examples of
different sites.
3. Impact of women's advertisements on females: Impact on their self-image/selfconcept, stereotypes and their role in society. Impact on forming relationships. The use of
cosmetic surgery. Pros and Cons.
4. Impact of men's advertising on males: Impact on self-image/self-concept, and the
male role in society. Stereotypes, Impact on forming relationships. The use of cosmetic
surgery. Pros and cons.
5. Violence in sports: Impact on the fans, the role parents and the players. How it
influences violence in life.
6. Child Beauty Pageants: look at the effect on the children and their socialization,
look at the parents’ role. Pros and cons. The costs involved. Benefits.
7. Fantasy Worlds on line: Explain what it is, why people are drawn to a fantasy life,
pros and cons. You can look at Second life, Warcraft, etc. Social impact on the people
and their relationships. Discrimination in games-females and sexual orientation.
8. Teen Mothers: Impact on mother and child during pregnancy and after birth. Impact
on the child’s future. Economic and social future for both. Teen father role.
9. Genetically Modified Foods ( GMO), Franken foods : What are GMO foods. The
pros and cons of the seeds and food products, who owns the seeds, who grows them, who
eats them, who doesn’t allow them and why, government regulations, health effects on
people.

10. Child soldiers: where and why it occurs, why children are used, impact on the
child, look at challenges to resocialize. Look at both male and female soldiers.
11. Culture: Chose a culture that you are unfamiliar with and find out about it. Look at
the beliefs, values, traditions, foods, government, economy, festivals, symbols, etc.
12. Children and TV. How children model behaviour and attitudes. Look at kids under
10 and how their behaviour is effected by TV. Positive and negative. What do kids learn.
13. Senior citizens in Canada: Look at the housing and health care crisis. Population
numbers, why are people living longer, how can the government deal with the issue?
Should families responsible? Is there discrimination against gay or lesbian seniors.
14. Homelessness: Impact on children, families, education and social relationships and
society. Why homelessness occurs, types of homelessness.
15. NGO – Non Government organizations or Non Profit Organizations: Types of
NGOs, Charitable orientation or Service orientation or Participatory orientation.
Examples: Greenpeace, Doctors without borders, WWF-World Wildlife Federation,
Save the Children, Habitat for Humanity. Explain who they are, what type of work they
do, how to become involved, impact on society.
16. Fast Food Industry: Impact of fast food on children, family meal time and family
life and eating habits. Health issues associated with fast food, obesity. Why is it popular?
Location of fast food places, app technology.
17. Homeschooling: why is it growing, pros and cons, impact on student academic
achievements and socialization. Look at how it is regulated-parents and the student.
18. The Simpsons TV show. Why is the show is considered a social and cultural
commentary of popular culture and its impact on society. Look at language, family
relationships, social commentary, look at each characters personality.
19. Physical Punishment for children. Is spanking abuse? Look at the pros and cons
used for each side of the issue. Legal aspects. Consequences to the child social process.
20. Surrogacy Motherhood. Who uses a surrogate and why. Who volunteers to be a
surrogate Mother and why. The Pros and cons of surrogacy for both parties. Health
concerns for the child due to older parents. Ethical issues.
21. Residential Schools: why did the government create them, what were the
government policies for the school, how did the schools destroy native culture, how were
the students treated, are there still residential schools.
