How will media change in the future? How will people live in the future? Media is a part of our everyday life. People read newspapers, watch television, listen to the radio, use the internet, and use the mobile phone. The thing that people use the media everyday is not changed, but the way we use the media and which media we use have been changed. Old media such as television and radio have lost their power to the people, and then new media such as mobile phone and the internet have got power now. As the way people use the media is changed, the way people live is also changed. Our group was wondering how the people who live in Norrkoping think about those things, so we interviewed 30 people on the street and discussed about the future of media. The way people use the media is different among different groups. Teens and university students use the internet most often and they use the media actively. However, the forties are different. They prefer traditional media to new media. Also, we can see their fear of the media. They only use the basic function of media because they do not know how to use and do not want to know. Furthermore, when we try to interview people, young people did not afraid of talking in front of the camera. However, the older people did not want to talk in from of camera. So, interviewing older people was much more difficult than young people. Common thing among different group is that everyone knows the importance of media. Most people think that convergence and integration between media will be more common in the future. In the future people’s life will be convenient but people will be lazy and get more stress. Also, through one report I can have some ideas about future of media: Future Of Media : Report 2006. There are five ideas about future media: shifting, time compression infinite content, generational change, and media in everywhere. Media will be shifted to use easily. That is, media is developed in a way user friendly. People are getting busier and busier, so making connecting people will be faster than now. Amount of information will be infinite in the future. So the important thing will be finding proper information not just finding just information. As we can see through the result of our interview, generation gap in a way of using the media is obvious. Lastly, ubiquitous will be realized. We can use the media in every place at any or every time. Through the interview and discussion I can have the time to think about the media. The changing speed is fast, so predicting the future of media is quite difficult. However, people’s opinion and expert’s expectation give me some clues about the future of media. Getting various views on the media will help me to adjust to the future better and use the media in a proper way.
