ESL 099 AND HUC 105 VOICE AND DICTION
This high level writing intensive course is paired with Voice and Diction. In the ESL course, students are
exposed to readings which are related to issues of identity, racism, gender, diversity and cultural social
values. Through online writing, classroom discussion, argumentation and narrative essays, students

improved, and grammatical accuracy and fluency are developed through the discussion, the writing revision
process and grammar exercises. In addition, students can improve their verbal fluency through class
presentations and class participation. In the Voice and Diction course, students have opportunities to focus
on and practice pronunciation. Coordination between the two classes allows students to use the reading text
from their ESL class as a tool for reinforcing skills learned in HUC 104

ESR099 LEARNING COMMUNITIES
ESR099/SSS 100 INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY/LRC102 INFORMATION
STRATRIES
This is a cluster for ESR099 students. Not only can students achieve their goal of improving written
English in the ESR course, but they can also complete six college credits. Professors work closely to create
a cohesive learning experience in which readings, assignments and classroom activities support English and

economics and politics work in their daily lives and influence who they are. In Information Strategies,
students learn how to get information on the World Wide Web and in libraries as well as how to evaluate
the quality of information in research formats. The research skills obtained by students aid in completion of
research assignments in Sociology. In ESR099, written and oral skills work offers multiple opportunities to
master new ideas in a cooperative environment. Films, lectures, trips and special college events also
comprise part of the curriculum.
