Read: Jack the Ripper A true story and an unsolved mystery In 1888, a person who named himself Jack the Ripper killed five women. All five were prostitutes from a poor area of London. He always used a knife. After the second murder, Jack the Ripper sent a letter to the police. He said there would be more murders. The newspapers wrote about Jack the Ripper and people in London were very frightened. They were afraid to go out at night. After two months the murders stopped. The police never found out who the murderer was and no one was arrested. Today people are still trying to guess who Jack the Ripper was.
