A staple in the channel’s schedule since its establishment, it is the only television drama series set in rural Ireland and has won plaudits for its ability to portray the realities of contemporary life in Ireland with humour and subtlety. It deals with the major issues, both complex and simple in an understanding way. This season’s storylines continue with a strong family theme throughout; from growing families, unwelcome relatives, skeletons emerging from closets and family feuds, as well as dramatic hook-ups, break-ups, local wrangling and gossiping along with all the usual craic and shenanigans of your our favourite characters! Following the traumatic birth of their son, Lee and Jason embark their life together by looking for a new home. Will love conquer all for the newlyweds or will the endless challenges extinguish their flame? Contact: Ciarán Ó Cofaigh 091-553951 ciaran@rosg.ie Corp + Anam 9.30pm 27/11/14 A second four-part series for the acclaimed and award-winning gritty crime thriller that chronicles the difficult professional and intense personal life of a tenacious TV crime reporter. It deals with the murky corners of life on the fringes of the law, and interrogates the frenzied role the media play in presenting human tragedies as consumable bite-size news. This is Irish-language crime drama with a heart of darkness. With his marriage to Mairéad (Maria Doyle Kennedy) floundering, dogged TV crime correspondent Cathal Mac Iarnáin (Diarmuid de Faoite) buries himself in his investigative journalism, and launches a personal crusade against the Irish judiciary. This hard-hitting new series shines a light on one of the darkest corners of our society - corruption in our legal system. Opening the series, Mac Iarnáin investigates the brutal assault of a foreign national and discovers that the perpetrator, a serial offender, was given bail by a corrupt judge – in spite of Garda appeals to remand him in custody. Pressure mounts on Cathal as he’s implicated in her death. Desperate to clear his name, he is forced to endanger those closest to him as he gets sucked in to a deadly game of cat and mouse with a dangerous sociopath. In episode 2, Mac Iarnáin uncovers a high-ranking solicitor who is double-charging redress board victims for his services. Having persuaded his superiors to run with the exposé, Cathal becomes dangerously exposed as his sources are suddenly silenced. In the double episode 3 and 4, Mac Iarnáin champions the case of John McGuire, a besieged farmer being hounded off his land by corrupt solicitors. However, the judiciary closes rank against him and Cathal is imprisoned. Silenced and with no other option, Cathal presents his estranged wife Mairéad with an uncomfortable dilemma, Will she risk her career as a solicitor by taking on the judiciary in support of her difficult and estranged spouse? The cast includes Maria Doyle Kennedy, Diarmuid De Faoite, Colm Mac Donncha and Sinéad Ní Fhlatharta. This series was written and directed by Darach Mac Con Iomaire and is has been produced with funding support from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. She is five months pregnant and won’t say who the father is. Then she disappears. Robin Griffin is a gutsy but inexperienced detective called in to investigate. But as Robin becomes more and more obsessed with the search for Tui, she slowly begins to realise that in seeking the young girl, she is also trying to find herself. Set against one of the most spectacular and untouched landscapes left on the planet, this is a powerful and haunting story about our search for happiness where the dream of paradise attracts it dark twin, the fall. It stars Elisabeth Moss, David Wenham, Peter Mullan and Holly Hunter. A See-Saw Films production. The Bridge 10.40pm 16/10/14 Another in the current blossoming of award-winning Scandinavian TV crime drama continues with this 10 part dark story that unfolds when a female body is found in the middle of the Øresund Bridge that links Sweden and Denmark. In a macabre twist, police discover that half the body belongs to a Swedish politician and the other half to a Danish prostitute. A bi-national team of inspectors is put together to solve the crime: laid-back Danish family man Martin, and Swedish single woman, Saga who puts facts above empathy. The clever killer is a “moral terrorist,” who lays out his agenda in messages addressed to the media and designed to show us how corrupt we have become. Indeed, the spectacular murders he stages actually do bring public opinion to his side. The lead detectives begin to suspect that it could be a personal vendetta perpetrated by someone from their own ranks. Always one step ahead of the police, the killer becomes the object of a dramatic manhunt throughout the Øresund area. Produced by Filmlance International and Nimbus Film. Justified 9.10pm Saturdays Season 5 begins 11/10/14 Season 5 of the acclaimed police drama series brings explosive plots, lots of gunfire and searing one liners as we follow the latest in the trials and tribulations of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant), a true-blue hero. He is something of a throwback, given to wearing a Stetson and cowboy boots, carrying his sidearm in a hip holster – a weapon he only draws when he has to, and when he does, he shoots to kill, because, as he sees it, that’s the purpose of a gun. Raylan was born and reared in the hill country of eastern Kentucky, ran away determined to become a U.S. Marshal. Now, years later he has been sent in punishment (and by fate?) to the one place to which he vowed he would never return—Kentucky. In season 5, he confronts the Crowes, a deadly, lawless family from Florida intent on settling in Harlan with new criminal enterprises in mind. Meanwhile, Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) struggles to free his imprisoned fiancée Ava (Joelle Carter) as he partners with the Dixie Mafia’s Wynn Duffy (Jere Burns). Expect explosive plots, lots of gunfire and searing one liners. The character of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens was created by America’s pre-eminent crime novelist Elmore Leonard. Fíorscéal 10.30pm Tuesdays from 9/9/14 A new season of top-class international documentaries that continue to throw a sometimes disturbing or controversial light on issues which affect us environmentally, socially, politically and globally. Among the first documentaries of the new season are: Land of Amber 9/9/14 Mexican amber is found exclusively in the Simojovel region of the Chiapas state in southern Mexico. It is extracted by hand by a workforce of indigenous men and children. This rare and ancient precious stone reaches high prices in the market, especially if the pieces have plants or animals trapped inside. The local miners are well removed in the value chain from the top buyers. Traders, resellers and jewellers buy the product from them at the lowest prices and make up to 1000% profit when selling on to tourists and collectors. Now, Chinese buyers are coming all the way to Simojovel, and buying raw amber at a much higher price from the indigenous miners, sometimes directly, or through knowledgeable US buyers. This is obviously benefitting the miners, but everyone else, from the small artisans in Simojovel town to the big traders in touristy San Cristóbal de Las Casas complains of injustice and imbalance in the trade. Mission Rape 16/9/14 Despite increasingly refined technology, mass-rape as a tool of war is used in modern combat. It is estimated that over 25,000 and up to 40,000 women were victims of mass rape during the Balkan war 1992-1995. Twenty years after these crimes only very few cases of war crimes of sexual violence have been investigated and prosecuted. When a woman is raped, the entire family is affected for generations to come. For the women in the film the rapes remain a heavy, dark shadow in their lives enshrouded by taboo. For them, legal justice is the only hope to regain integrity and life. But justice fails and betrays them all the way to the International Criminal Court of Justice (ICTY) in The Hague. The rapists from the war are at large, whereas the women are afraid to return to their homes. In court cases about war crimes, rape constantly falls down on the agenda. The film shows how the ICTY downgrades the rape that was committed against one of the main characters of the film by a high-ranking and notorious officer from the war. Big Tobacco - Young Targets 23/9/14 In the 21st century, tobacco-related diseases and illnesses will continue to kill 8 million people each year. And yet the dangers of smoking have been well known for many years. Tobacco companies have used every trick in the book to sell their deadly product; blatant or illegal, furtive or camouflaged advertising, corruption, ignoring or omitting scientific or medical data, mass manipulation, political influence… The tobacco industry will do what it takes to remain profitable; the very survival of the industry is at stake. Light Fly, Fly High Indian Women Boxers 30/9/14 The story of Thulasi, a young Indian woman who is literally fighting adversity. She has a number of factors against her - she is a woman, born a "Dalit," or "untouchable" in the Indian caste system. Her early years were a struggle for survival and now, she hopes to avail of a government programme that offers jobs to young athletes. Boxing is her chosen sport and she is trying to fight her way to the top. But at 25, she has almost reached the cut-off age. Although she is one of the best boxers on her team, there are more obstacles to overcome than just her opponents in the ring. Taking part in these competitions is an expensive business, so the boss of the boxing association has the power to make or break her career. Thulasi is not prepared to exchange sexual favours for a piece of paper to improve her chances. Carbon Crooks 21/10/14 At the end of 2012, the Kyoto Protocol expired. The ratifying countries have guaranteed that they will cut down on their carbon emissions and curb greenhouse gasses. This award-winning documentary poses a very simple question: How will Governments achieve these ambitious targets? One solution has been to buy carbon credits. If a rich country in the developed world has problems reaching its target, a solution is to buy Carbon Credits in the poor countries. It all looks good on paper but in reality, not all is well. In Bangladesh, numerous countries have bought carbon credits from new brick factories that the UN call "smokeless". But the workers are exposed to extremely hazardous fly-ash and are hardly able to breathe due to the heavy smoke. In Kenya some 900,000 water purification filters were distributed for free with the aim of reducing the use of firewood and saving carbon emissions. But only a quarter of the population actually use firewood to boil their water. It is clear that the international carbon trading industry has been exposed to massive theft and fraud on a much larger scale. According to Europol, this fraud exceeds more than €5 billion euro. The Dark Side of a Pill 14/10/14 This is an exclusive, case-driven investigation into one of the medical success stories of our time. Ten per cent of the adult population in the Western world is taking antidepressants. With global sales of €20 billion, the prescription drug is one of the most lucrative products of the medical industry. Now, in the Netherlands a court verdict may be about to change the way that Europe views antidepressants. The trial is considering the possibility that a murderer be acquitted for his crime because he was involuntarily intoxicated by antidepressants. Other instances highlighted in the programme also raise questions. In the USA, David never had a record of violence nor problems with the police but suddenly, just days after taking antidepressants he committed a terrible crime as he stabbed and killed his twin daughters. In Canada, a grieving mother is distraught that her son's killer was released from prison after a short 14-month sentence. The judge ruled that Prozac was to blame for his death. In Germany, a wife and loving mother committed suicide, just weeks after taking Prozac. Her husband is convinced that there a link between suicide and antidepressants. Is he right? The Seed War: Fighting for food independence 21/10/14 In the near future, farmers might lose the right to plant their own seeds. Indeed, in Europe, a regulation is emerging which will impose strict controls on the use of agricultural seeds. Behind this appropriation stand five corporations already governing half of the global seed market and looking to tighten their stranglehold even further. This documentary travels from India to Europe, and even the polar circle, to unveil a silent and unknown war whose outcome is critical for all of us as it will determine our food independence or lack of it. Against all odds; A different tsunami story 28/10/14 North-eastern Japan shelters a fragile treasure: oysters. This sanctuary has been almost wiped out by the tsunami which flooded 600kms of coastline, destroying numerous fishing ports. This is the story of Shigeatsu Hatakeya, called ‘the father of oysters’ who has spent all his life trying to understand this very complex shellfish. He made a discovery that might well change our appreciation of how nature works. This is also the story of a fantastic international solidarity move between oyster farmers following the disaster. Deadly Depths 4/11/14 Beneath the waves, real time bombs are ticking: more than one million tons of chemical weapons, inherited from two world wars lie abandoned on the seabed. From 1917 to 1970, the armies of the world’s greatest powers systematically dumped these highly toxic and explosive cocktails into the oceans. Virtually indestructible, these weapons were systematically immersed in seas and lakes or buried. This is a military secret so well-kept that these underwater dump sites remained hidden for several decades. This programme investigates this untold story of the global risk of this chemical pollution and the danger it poses to the health, environmental, and economic impacts of which are still too difficult to estimate! Mairéad is well-known as one of the glamorous TG4 weather presenters with a keen interest in fashion. Her companion Conall is a well-known GAA sports pundit, with a great sense of humour and adventure. They have already demonstrated for TG4 viewers that theirs is the new alternative way to travel cheaply, learn new skills, encounter different cultures and help save the planet. Opulent foreign holidays are becoming a bit of a thing of the past. If people want to travel they need to have a good reason to justify the expense and the environmental impact. For an increasing number WWOOFING (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) provides ideal combination. The presenters set out on their road trip in Ireland, stopping at two WWOOF farms in Tipperary and Antrim. They then take to the Continent to try their hand at vineyards, bee farms, building houses, stud farms and more. It is not all work and no play as they also sample some of the local cuisine and culture. We’ll see them learn about organic winemaking in Italy, about the Hare Krisna faith in Belguim, about yoga and meditation in Tenerife and living without electricity or running water in Malta. Domestic violence is prevalent in all strands of Irish society thought largely remaining in the shadows. For many women living at home is a dangerous and uncomfortable place due to fear of violent and abusive husbands or partners. In this programme, three women from rural Ireland speak candidly about their experiences of living with violent abusive men, the affect it had on them and their children, their reasons for staying and ultimately their reasons for leaving. An adult daughter of an abusive father will talk about her life as a defenceless child living in constant fear of a controlling violent tyrant and the effect this had on her life. On a stormy night in late December 1941, an oil tank attached to a rail wagon was washed ashore on Inisheer, one of the Aran Islands at the mouth of Galway Bay. In the tank lay the body of a dead man. Wearing little or no clothing and with no distinguishing marks, he was dubbed 'The Man in the Tank' by the islanders. His remains are now buried in the local graveyard, another nameless victim of World War II, perhaps. To this very day no-one knows who he was or where he came from. In this programme the few islanders who were alive at the time relate their memories of the event and the producers will set about investigating who the 'The Man in the Tank' was and where he came from. Danno O’Mahoney was born in Ballydehob, West Cork in 1912 and rose to become a global superstar and a shining example of the Fighting Irish in American culture during the 1920s and 30s. The fledgling sport he helped grow is now a multibilliondollar entertainment industry. He was a trailblazer, athlete and entertainer; a true Irish legend but few know much about the man himself. His bouts were worldwide news and offered hope to a changing Ireland gripped by the Great Depression as a man-mountain from West Cork dominated all opponents, confirming national pride in our new nation; his homecoming had thousands follow him around Cork with the world’s media which followed him throughout his amazing career in a surreal sport which has seen many ups and downs in his career. Possibly Ireland’s strongest man, his athletic record for throwing the hammer lasted for 50 years. Sadly he did not live to see it as a tragic car accident in the Midlands of Ireland took his life at the early age of 38. By then his legend was cemented, as this documentary shows. In late January 1947 a cold front left Ireland in an arctic grip with temperatures plummeting to -14°C. The country came to virtual standstill and isolate farms and villages ran low on food, fuel and animal fodder. With firsthand accounts from those who remember it well, and the use of archive film and newspaper articles, this is the story of the Big Freeze. Davinder Mehan came to the North-West to join his uncle who had been selling clothes for thirty years. The young nephew began to cycle the Gaeltacht areas of the county, selling clothes door to door. For many of his customers, he was the first person of colour they had ever seen. A couple of years later he was joined by Ramesh, his bride. They had only ever met once, for tea. This was an arranged married, as per Hindu tradition. CIÉ’s riveted ship carried everything from summer students and sheep ”down” to Galway and biscuits and The Dubliners “up” to Aran. The Naomh Éanna was launched at the end of a great era of shipbuilding at the Liffey Dockyard and was designed to service a group of islands, only one of which could berth her quayside. Rusted and retired from service for over twenty years and with little future, she was consigned to be scrapped, until a young English captain embarked on a campaign to save her from the indignity of the scrapyard. The campaign continues as does the rusting. Produced by Léirithe DMCI. Prior to 2010 people diagnosed with cancer in the east Galway area had no local centre to offer them support. Realising that patients who had been diagnosed with cancer had a real need for assistance in understanding and coping with their illness, a group of people got together to form the East Galway Cancer Support centre. Just under four years later their new centre in Ballinasloe is thriving, offering a range of services to cancer patients and survivors. It is fostering an awareness of healing emanating from the community, giving patients a voice and a belief that there is life beyond the diagnosis of cancer. Produced by Hawkeye Films. It examines the development of ideas, how they are inextricably linked to the rise of the written word and how education liberates people. It also deals with the political implications of the written word and why societies felt the need to censor certain types of information. It examines how modern science has unlocked some of the mysteries of what our brain does when we read and considers how technology companies might censor our culture in the future. The series, narrated by Eibhlín Ní Chonghaile ranges world-wide and explores the different political and cultural dynamics the written word has created. In the first episode we examine the origins of written language. From the caves in Lascaux and their mysterious markings to the origins of numbers in Mesapotamia. The legend of Gilgamesh, considered to be the first novel, Guttenberg’s innovative printing press and the effect it had on Europe and the world. We also examine the critical role that Ireland had in preserving the literature of the ancient world and how the monks had designed books that are still perfect hundreds of years later. Finally, we examine the best read book in the world, the Bible, and its effect on the world. The huge variety of interpretations, some completely literal some less so and the religious beliefs and behaviour that exist as a result. In the second episode we examine the effect that the written word has had on society and how different societies respond to censorship and the rights of the people to express a point of view, no matter how controversial or unpopular. We look at some examples of the intolerance towards a free liberal media that some European countries experience today. Produced by Reading Productions Justin McCarthy justinmccarthy23@gmail.com Ar Intinn Eile from 17/09/14 This three part documentary series explores the history of mental illness and its treatment in Ireland over the past three hundred years, with each of the programmes covering a century. In common with other countries, our understanding of mental illness has improved somewhat in recent times but there were insightful pioneers working in this field in past centuries too. They fought an uphill struggle to overcome the stigma attaching to any form of mental illness and against some of the very harsh treatments and permanent incarceration meted out to patients. It is Europe’s largest construction project, and in this engineering theatre, we find Boyles, Gallaghers and O’Donnells, tunnel construction crews sourced almost exclusively from Donegal. This underground parish of Donegal men is continuing a practice that stretches back for generations. For well over a hundred years, Donegal men have tunnelled and this film tells their story from present to past and back again. This story of the men who flocked to tunnel out the mines, rail lines and hydro schemes of Britain is one that evokes life in all its harshness, humour and beauty - with characters cast by the work they did. Gonna O’Donnell is one them, now long retired. The programme follows him on his annual trip from the Rosses in Donegal to the Highlands of Scotland where he revisits the vast schemes and other locations where the Tunnel Tigers earned their reputation. Gonna’s journey is intercut with the voices of the Donegal men he worked alongside from the 1950’s to the early 80’s and we also meet the modern tunnellers from Donegal. Now, 50 years after the first recruits graduated from this new facility, they returned to commemorate the occasion. In this commemorative documentary, we meet the class of '64 and discover how their lives and careers played out after they left Templemore. Many of them were involved in some of the most high-profile court cases the State has ever seen - one even became a Garda Commissioner. All of them recall a different more innocent time as they reflect on what has become of the Gardaí. Profiling both the men of Templemore and the town that embraced them, this documentary provides a unique insight into the lives of the men who served our State. Produced by Dearg Films. Brian Reddin 01-2899217 deargfilms@eircom.net Torthaí na Daoirse 22/10/14 The story of the Dunnes Stores anti-apartheid strike in 1984 when Mary Manning, a 21 year old worker at the supermarket in Henry Street, Dublin took on the might of her employers and much of the Irish establishment as well. In keeping with a directive from her own union, she refused to register the sale of an Outspan grapefruit. She and ten other workers who supported her action were suspended from work with immediate effect and a strike ensued. They assumed it would be a matter of days before the issue would be resolved and they would return to work. But the lockout was to last two years and nine months and only ended when the Irish government agreed to implement a complete ban of the import of South African goods until the apartheid regime was overthrown. Opposition to the strike came from all quarters – including from within the IDATU (Irish Distributive & Administrative Union), the Church, the Gardaí, the Irish Government and most astonishingly the head of the Irish Anti-Apartheid Movement, This documentary exposes the bitter rivalry that escalated between the parties concerned as the eyes of the world shone on the strikers in their fight against apartheid. European trade was the lifeblood of apartheid in South Africa, and on that fateful day in July 1984 the naive action taken by one young Irish shop cashier was about to change the face of the anti-apartheid movement around the world. Participants include: Mary Manning, Áine Ní Éalaí, Ben Dunne, Brendan Archbold, Brendan Ryan, Des Geraghty, Bishop Desmond Tutu and sitting TDs Finian McGrath and Ruairí Quinn. The series, a major international coproduction seeks to answer one simple question: What was it like for those involved ? It seeks to answer the question by relying solely on the contemporary testimony of those who lived through it (or through part of it). This series is a major collaboration, drawing on the work of an international team of authors, researchers and broadcasters. The initial research uncovered 1,000 dramatic stories of the war. The series has woven them together, combining some of the most vivid and emotional stories of Irishmen and women with those of European men, women and children. These characters- such as the selection of Irish soldiers in a trench on The Western Front - provide gritty insights into their daily lives and struggles, and give a true sense of this lived war on the battlefields. In addition to these main characters, the series provides context and shade by including snippets from 100 side characters from all over the world – a Chorus of sorts – who share a feeling or experience that was echoed around the globe. Hailing from different sections of the involved powers, and from all walks of life, these characters represent a cross-section of society itself. No TV series can tell the full story of the Great War. This series brings you into the minds of those who experienced it. We then follow that person as they embark on a personal journey investigating further three of the stories that catch their eye from the date of their birth. The episode begins with a visit to the National Library where journalist Harry McGee is on hand to guide the guest through the newspaper archive there. They find out what made the headlines (big and small) on the day of the guest’s birth. It is up to the guest to decide which three stories they like best. It might be those that made headlines on that day, OR the smaller news stories, from local radio or newspaper that catches their attention. The stories can be a mix of heavy news items that have resonance today or lighter items that speak more about the culture, fashion or trends “back in the day”. Among the guests are well known personalities and include GAA legends, politicians, musicians, actors and broadcasters. Former Minister Alan Dukes visits the German World War II prisoner of war camp in Sachsenhausen, liberated on the day of his birth. He finds out that one of those interned was an Irishman, Colonel John McGrath. Broadcaster Evelyn O’Rourke meets a woman who was kidnapped in Dublin’s Henry Street on the day of Evelyn’s birth. Veteran sportscaster Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh adds to his repertoire by going for a cricket lesson in the Phoenix Park, the venue home of a big cricket match on the day he was born. Style icon and Kerry footballer Paul Galvin follows the fashion passion by tracing what happened to designer Sara Percival who opened a clothes factory in Mayo on the day he was born. Major AFL stars such as Patrick Dangerfield, Luke Hodge, Scott Pendlebury and Joel Selwood have already committed to the 2014 game. GAA 2014 Another season of the popular staple in the TG4 schedule, Monday night’s hour long highlights of all the Gaelic games action, Mondays, 8.30pm. Laochra Gael The thirteenth season the popular documentary profile series on Gaelic games legends. Each edition recalls a former player who made a big impact on his/her chosen sport and includes archive footage, interviews and features. Contributors include players, managers, commentators and analysts. The new season’s profiles will include: Brendan Cummins, (Tipperary) Considered one of the greatest hurling goalkeepers of all time, the dual-playing Ardfinnan man guarded the net for the Premier county for nearly two decades, winning two All Irelands, five All Star awards and making a record 73 championship appearances for his native county. Barney Rock, (Dublin) The red-headed darling of Hill 16 throughout the eighties, the Ballymun free-taker captured Metropolitan hearts with his place kicking and match-winning scores like his famous opportunistic goal against Galway in the 1983 All-Ireland Final ensuring victory for a 12 man Dublin. Phil 'Fan' Larkin & Philip Larkin, (Kilkenny) The Larkins of James Stephens club in Kilkenny hold a unique distinction in hurling history: Three generations of the same family have won All Ireland Senior hurling medals with Kilkenny. Paddy won four in the 1930s, his son 'Fan' won five in the 1960's and 70's and his son Philly added three more with the Cats at the turn of the 21st century. Ryan McMenamin, (Tyrone) A tenacious defender, the St Dympna’s Dromore man was born in Canada. While he often was accused of playing on the edge, he was vital to the success of Mickey Harte's team of champions, winning three All Irelands with Tyrone in the 2000's and five Ulster titles. Often feared, always respected, Ryan always drew a response from opponents and from the crowd Michael Duignan, (Offaly) For over a decade, he was a key member of the talented Offaly team that took the hurling world by storm in the 1990s with their skill, flair and never say die attitude, winning two All Ireland medals and five Leinster titles. The St Rynagh’s man was a talented footballer too. He is now a respected pundit. Niamh Kindlon, (Monaghan) Winning an All Ireland in her debut year with Monaghan in 1997, the Magheracloone stalwart has gone on to cement her status as one of the modern greats of ladies football, leading her county team on the ongoing quest for more All Ireland glory with no luck so far but Niamh plays on. Ciarán Carey, (Limerick) A giant of a player for Limerick during the nineties, the Patrickswell stalwart held the fort at midfield and centre back throughout his county’s campaigns to achieve All Ireland glory. While he didn’t achieve that, he made his mark and his amazing last minute point against Clare in 1996 will go down as one of the greatest winners ever scored in GAA history. Ogie Moran, (Kerry) A member of the all-Kerry exclusive club of five players to win eight football All Ireland senior medals, the Beale club-man has two further unique distinctions of been the only player to win all eight while playing the same position and of being the only player of them to play for the full duration of each of those eight victorious finals. He captained for Kerry’s famous All Ireland victory over Dublin in 1978. Jamesie O'Connor, (Clare) Clare's most prolific scorer during their reign in the nineties, the St Joseph's Doora Barefield man was key to the county’s All Ireland successes of 1995 and 1997. He also added three Munster titles, Hurler of the Year in 1997, four All Star awards and an All Ireland club medal in what was a golden era for the Banner county Liam McHale, (Mayo) One of Ireland's greatest basketball players but to Gaelic football fans he will be remembered as the tall, imposing midfielder who spearheaded his county’s frequent but unsuccessful All-Ireland campaigns from 1989 to 1997. Although the All Ireland title remained elusive for Mayo, the Ballina man collected six Connacht titles and an All Star and was a selector with Mayo in 2004 and 2005. It combines new interviews with nostalgic archive footage from the period to illustrate the highs and lows of this special group of men and women who kept Ireland entertained for so long.
