FROM ADMINISTRATION
Our students in Grades 3-5 TRIED
VERY HARD on this year’s FCAT
Reading, Mathematics, and Science! The
majority of our FCAT students were not
tardy or absent! WAY TO GO 3rd-5th
Grade students! Our school calendar is
“filling up” with many, many end- ofthe- year classroom/grade
level/schoolwide activities! Be sure you

Guidance Information
Pam Strickland, Guidance Counselor
We are gearing up for our May hair
cutting “Wigs For Kids” event! We are
having the hair cutting day on
Wednesday, May 11, after school. If your
child and/or you are getting a hair cut, make
sure we have your name. Local newspaper
reporters will be here on May 11 to take
pictures because Wigs for Kids is such a
worthy cause! Thanks to everyone who has
signed up to donate hair to children who
have cancer and lost their hair!
We are reaching the end of the year and I
want to thank all who have donated food and
clothing for our needy families. We would
like 5th Graders to donate MAE shirts
before leaving for the summer. These
donations will help provide for needy
students next year. We also need pants as
our supply is running low. Thanks to those
who have donated items for our Families in
Transition. The donations are distributed
each Friday. We are truly blessed here at
MAE for your wonderful support in meeting
our many needs.

FIFTH GRADE NEWS
Each year our school selects a 5th Grade
student as the Walt Disney Dreamer and
Doer. Dreamer and Doers are students who
not only dream…They work hard to achieve
their dreams! They are responsible, hardworking 5th Graders who are very involved
in school and community activities. This
year Walt Disney World wanted 5th
Grade students, who were interested in
being Dreamer and Doer, write an essay
of 300 words or less describing something
they have done at home, in school, or in
their community that has inspired others
and makes their world a better place.
Essays that were submitted were read by
judges. We CONGRATULATE
GWENYTH ANDREWS as our school’s
2011 Walt Disney Dreamer and Doer!
Gwenyth’s essay focused on what she has
done in her community. She volunteers
as a “buddy” for the Challenger Baseball
Team for the mentally-and physicallyhandicapped children. Her special
“buddy” is a cerebral palsy child. Being a
buddy has taught Gwenyth how to help
disabled children feel good about
themselves. She loves being a “buddy” so
much that she talked her best friend into
participating in this program. Gwenyth is
also very involved in her school life. She
works very hard in making A and B
Honor Roll for the year. She also serves
as a safety patrol and member of our
school chorus. Through auditions,
Gwenyth was chosen as one of the ten 5th
Grade students to participate in this
year’s All County 5th Grade Chorus who
will perform on June 3. We have submitted
Gwenyth’s essay to Walt Disney World. A
committee will read all the elementary
schools representatives’ essays and select
one elementary student from the district as
Osceola County’s Dreamer and Doer.
Again, CONGRATULATIONS
GWENYTH!
