Movie overview: Mitch became caught up with his career as a sport
commentator and journalist. He ignored his girlfriend and did not make
time to do things in life that are of the most value to a human being.
Morrie was one of Mitch's professors in college and a famous scholar. One
day Mitch was watching television and saw Morrie giving an interview
stating that he is dying of Lou Gehrig disease or ALS.

TITLE:
Morrie and ALS
TO DO
1. Watch the movie: :Tuesdays with Morrie”
2. Create a one page visual, using Morrie as your patient, and addressing his needs through three
different lenses:
A. Maslow's hierarchy.
B. Erickson’s Psychosocial stages,
C. Stages of grief and loss,
STOP and THINK
Think about the following, and use these questions to get you started:
1. How would you help to meet Morrie's needs physically?

It may be necessary to look up more information about ALS- this would
start to address Maslow's.

Look at the multiple levels of Maslow's and mention at least one from
each level in your one page paper.
2. What Psychosocial stage from Erickson’s is Morrie dealing with? Give 2 examples to
support your reasoning.
3. What questions would you ask Morrie, if you were a social worker or a psychologist
helping him to work through his grief and loss?
 stages of grief and psychosocial- think about not only his grief,
 but the loss of things he is not or will not experience
4. What images and pictures do you associate with his experience, how could you add
color and images to your one pager to deepen the meaning? (Extra credit)
5. Before you are finished, ask yourself –
 Have you covered Morrie's story from each of the three lenses before you are
finished?
