Name: _____________________________________________________ Core: _____ NEW DEAL ORGANIZATION BROCHURE Your Task: To create a brochure, advertising and highlighting the qualities of an organization created to alleviate (lessen) pressures placed on Americans during the Great Depression. You will have class time on Tuesday 11/15 - Friday 11/18 to collect information, collect pictures, and design your brochure using Microsoft Publisher. Your “New Deal Brochure” will be due at the start of class on Monday 11/21. 1. First, read and take notes about the organization to which you have been assigned. Websites with descriptions of these programs can be found by Google searching their name with “New Deal.” For example, use “Federal Housing Administration New Deal” to search for info on the FHA. On pages 427-433 of the Call to Freedom textbooks, many of the programs are briefly described, but you may need to use other sources to supplement (add to) what you find. While you read, identify the problem your organization was created to cure. While you read, figure out exactly what this organization is going to do to fix the problem you identified (be specific). While you read, predict the impact this organization will have on improving living conditions for Americans (if it works). 2. After you read and take notes, imagine a government agency has hired you to promote this new organization. Create a trifold brochure for the organization you have read about (using the Publisher directions below). Be creative in your brochure design and be sure to include all of the information you were required to collect. The trifold brochure should include the following: Name of the Organization Mention the problem(s) the program is trying to solve Explain clearly what the program will do to fix the problem(s) Explain how life will improve as a result of the program/impact Create a logo or slogan to include that represents your agency or what it accomplishes Uses color (either printed or post-print coloring by hand) and multiple pictures or images Brochure is appealing and persuasive – you were hired to promote the organization. BUILDING YOUR BROCHURE IN MICROSOFT PUBLISHER: 1. Open Microsoft Publisher 2. Click “Design Sets” 3. Click “Accent Box Informational Brochure” “Publication Designs” allows you to change the design Page 1 and Page 2 icons in bottom left allow you to see the front and back of the brochure 4. Enter required information from above. Check off each section as it is completed. 5. Print a copy of your brochure, staple the two sheets together (back to back), then fold them into a tri-fold brochure 6. The school will not provide a color copy of your brochure, but you may save to a flashdrive and print at home as long as the brochure will be submitted by the due date. NEW DEAL ORGANIZATIONS: 1.
