7th Grade Life Science Cell Project Date Due: November 20, 2013 Instructions: You are required to produce a travel brochure that describes a plant or animal cell as if it were a large exhibit/amusement park. You must accurately describe/draw/explain at least 8 organelles (attractions) and their functions. Humor and creativity are strongly encouraged. You will produce this travel brochure to attract visitors to spend money to visit an animal or plant cell. You can think of your cell as a huge amusement park, zoo, or even a mall. The brochure must describe at least 8 “attractions” (organelles or cell processes) that will “delight and amaze” their potential customers. Brochures will be evaluated on accuracy of organelle descriptions, design, and creativity. Using various attractions as inspiration, produce a travel brochure to entice visitors to take the next exit and visit the “Incredible! Amazing! And Unbelievable!” sights of an animal or plant cell. For example, tourists might want to “visit the ribosomes, located just outside the nucleus, and watch as proteins are synthesized right before your eyes!!!” Or use creative descriptions such as “be sure to visit the Golgi center inside the gift shop, and have your purchases gift wrapped for you before you leave,” Use diagrams, maps, illustrations, pictures, etc. to make your brochure accurate and informative. You may produce this brochure using a computer program (like Publisher or similar) but this is not required. Brochures made using construction paper & colored pencils are equally acceptable. Students may work alone or with a partner, but make sure to choose wisely when selecting a partner. Be sure to choose someone who is reliable and not just because they are your friend. This project is due on or before November 20, 2013. While you will be given some time in class to do it, work will be required at home. Five points per day will be deducted from your grade for each day it is late. Please do not lose points needlessly for being late! Ask for help if you need it. You can see me individually any day during lunch, contact, etc. Grading: Your brochure will be graded according to the following point distribution: Content Appearance 56 points 20 points Originality/Creativity Grammar/Spelling 14 points 10 points
