The Big Draw is an annual event held each October, which brings together thousands of people at hundreds of venues throughout the UK. The open invitation is for everyone to join in; using drawing as a tool to engage with the past, present and future and exploring technical, scientific, architectural, and archaeological or fine art drawings. Epsom and Ewell’s Big Draw events are being organised by ArtXtra, which was set up by two inspired artists; Christine Loizou an art and design lecturer and Tom Griffin, a graphic designer. Both of whom have volunteered their time as an extension of their Saturday morning drawing workshops launched at the Ebbisham Centre. On Saturday 16th October, everyone is invited to put pencil to paper and discover how to capture colourful and interesting, still and moving images Age is no limit; the Campaign for Drawing is to help everyone over the ‘I can’t do it’ barrier. “Everyone can draw and there should be something for everyone,” said Tom Griffin, “we just want people to turn up and get stuck in!” But would-be participants should not think that drawing is a subject just for softies! There will be a gleaming Harley Davison motorbike to whet the appetites of those Page 1 of 3 Epsom & Ewell covers an area of 8,500 acres, approximately 15 miles south of London. ~ The majority group on the Borough Council is made up of residents associations which hold 27 of the 38 seats. Councillor Lesley Danbury, Chairman of Epsom & Ewell’s Leisure Committee said, “I can’t think of a more absorbing way to spend the day; this is an excellent opportunity for everyone to discover their creative skills and really enjoy this community event! One of the Borough Council’s priorities is to encourage activities for young people and this gives them a chance to work with professional artists like ArtXtra.” Admission will be £1.00 with under-5s and Senior Citizens free of charge.
