Symbolism in Lord of the Flies
This is my first of five paragraphs for my Lord of the Flies essay. Notice how every time
the title of the novel is mentioned, it is in italics. I will make sure that I always do this if I want a
good mark on this essay because this is proper MLA format. I will also make sure that I include
my name, teacher’s name, course code and due date on the first page of my essay, along with a
title that tells the reader what question I am answering. My last name and page number will be in
the header on every page. I will make sure that I indent each of my five paragraphs and ensure
my essay is always double spaced. In addition, I will also include my thesis and my thesis
support in the first introductory paragraph (this paragraph). I know that I must quote from the
novel at least once per body paragraph and reference each quote properly. For example: Ralph
yells, “Which is better, law and rescue, or hunting and breaking things up?” (Golding 200). I will
also make sure that my essay is written in the present tense and that I do not use contractions; see
how I use “do not” instead of “don’t”? I love English class and my English teacher is the best.
(DO NOT actually use “I” and “my” in you essay)
