Honors 202 Persuasive Speech Requirements Checklist

8-10 minute proposition of policy persuasive speech
______
Topic should pose a significant problem within the present system for which you
can offer a plan to reduce the problem.
______
Topic significance must be related to the audience.
______
The plan must include a specific course of action that you want the
audience to take.
______
Develop a survey/questionnaire to be distributed to your
classmates on your topic to assist you in audience adaptation.
Reference must be made to the survey in the speech.
Parenthetical documentation: (questionnaire).

Must use at least 6 sources from a variety of editorial biases (viewpoints)
plus your class questionnaire. More sources will provide more depth.
a. Check Student Resources and Government Resources on Library
Homepage for assistance.
b. Consider using transcripts and newspapers.
c. Avoid use of Reader’s Digest.
d. General dictionaries and encyclopedias may be used and cited, but not
counted in your minimum of 6 primary sources.
e. Must have at least one written and one oral citation from the New York Times.

Specific purpose and thesis/central idea should be clear and definite.

Organization should follow Problem-Cause-Solution.

Internet Evaluation Form needed for Internet sources. These
must be submitted with the original outline. The majority of your sources will be
from Databases, not the Internet.

Formal outline with List of Works Cited written in MLA (6th ed.) style.

Formal outline must be in full sentences (only one sentence per point).

Sections of outline should be balanced in length.
______
Formal outline should use parallel structure.

Relate information to this particular audience, even with numbers.

Submit a folder with the outline, Works Cited, Internet Evaluations, and disk with the
outline save on it.

Reminder about Visual Aids: Visual Aids must be used for either the informative or the
persuasive speech. These must be professional in design.
