COURSE
DESCRIPTION:
This class is designed to bring about changes in the body as manifested by physical
exercise. This course can be physically demanding, but very satisfying for those interested in improving
their physical condition. Students will be informed on how to correctly use all of the equipment in the
fitness center, and will have the opportunity to ask questions of the instructor or the fitness center staff
member on duty when working out.
PREREQUISITE:
None
SEQUENCING:
This class is offered in the fall and spring semesters.
METHOD OF EVALUATION / GRADING:
This class can be taken Pass – Fail. Students may choose to workout as much or as little as they
want. We encourage students to exercise on a regular basis.
This class can also be taken for a letter grade.
To receive an A – must complete at least 27 workouts (21 hours)
To receive a B – must complete at least 25 workouts (19 hours)
To receive a C – must complete at least 23 workouts (18 hours)
To receive a D – must complete at least 21 workouts (16 hours)
* One workout consists of at least 40 minutes. The workout can be a combination of
stretching, cardiovascular conditioning, and/or weight lifting exercises.
TEACHING METHODS:
Class participation. Individual assessment and evaluation available if desired. Types of
assessments offered are: body composition, flexibility, strength, endurance, and cardiorespiratory endurance. Personal training advice offered by instructor by appointment.
COURSE POLICIES
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
It is imperative that each student does his/her own work. The following policy will apply to all students in
class.
Infractions of academic integrity (honesty) shall include:
“Signing in” and not completing a workout or having someone else “sign in” for you
PENALTIES FOR INFRACTIONS: You will be withdrawn from the course by the instructor.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: Attendance in class is the student’s responsibility.
CONDUCT: Mature behavior is expected and required.
INSTRUCTOR ASSISTANCE: If you are having problems with your workouts, please let me know
immediately so that I can help answer your questions.
INCOMPLETE POLICY:
Students will not be given an incomplete grade in the course without sound reason and documented as described
in the Student Handbook. The incomplete must be made up with the instructor assigning the incomplete and
must be completed the semester immediately following the semester in which the class was taken. Refer to the
Student Handbook for a complete explanation.
ACADEMIC COMPLAINTS:
Cloud County Community College has an Academic Due Process Policy to address any student
academic complaints. For any unresolved complaints, the policy can be obtained from the Academic
Affairs Office.

ASSESSMENT of COURSE GOALS:
Evaluation of this goal will be ascertained through observation and oral questioning of the student.
This assessment is not tied to the grade the student receives in the class.
Levels of learning:
1. The student is able to demonstrate or discuss physical fitness skills.
2. The student fails to demonstrate or discuss physical fitness skills.
Standards:
Eighty percent of the students finishing a physical education course at Cloud County Community
College will be able to demonstrate or discuss physical fitness skills. (Level 1)
LIFETIME FITNESS GOALS
1. Describe or measure the five components of health-related fitness and their potential health benefits and
risks (cardio-respiratory, body composition, flexibility, strength, and endurance).
2. Describe or measure the health benefits of regular physical activity.
3. Describe how much physical activity is recommended for lifetime fitness to prevent lifestyle-related
diseases/deaths.
ACCOMMODATION FOR DISABILITY:
If you need academic adjustments for any type of disability, see your instructor during office hours or make
an appointment. Students also may contact the Director of Advisement and Counseling, located in the
Advisement Center.

Notification will also be placed on the internet at www.cancellations.com. A text message will also be sent out
on the Emergency Text Messaging System for the students who have signed up for it.
Students should call the switchboard at 800-729-5101 or 785-243-1435 if they are unable to attend class due to
hazardous conditions. Night class and off campus class cancellations are left to the discretion of the instructor.
EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION PROCEDURE:
When alarms are sounded or crisis conditions arise, you will be instructed to move to a designated safe area or
to remain in the classroom until the crisis has passed. If you are informed to leave the room, take as many of
your personal belongings as time permits. Cell phones and other electronic devices are only to be used once
you arrive in the safe area outside the building. Students requiring special assistance will be the responsibility
of the instructor or staff person.
Systems of alert for tornado or bomb threat: PA system, phone, or staff interruption of class. In case of fire, the
alarm will sound.
If directed to leave the building, evacuate to the soccer field unless an alternate safe location has been
designated.
