Greenhouse
Facility- Lesson Plan
ANALYZE LEARNERS
The learners are eleventh and twelfth grade students. There are eight
boys and seven girls. The majority of the students are from rural areas of
Madison County and from middle-class families. About half of the class are
students zoned for the school and the other half are magnet students.
Magnet students are selected by a lottery and must maintain a C average in
order to continue attending the school. Hydroponics is not a required course.
The students are in the class by choice, thus appear to be excited about
taking part in class.
STATE OBJECTIVES
Using the Establishing a Hydroponics Greenhouse Facility WebQuest, the
Hydroponics class student will research and compare types of greenhouse
structures, controls and operating systems, and equipment and tools with a
score of 75% on the research section of the rubric.
Using the Establishing a Hydroponics Greenhouse Facility WebQuest and
other reputable resources, the Hydroponics class student will select the best
greenhouse structure, controls and operating systems, and equipment and
tools for our school greenhouse based on criteria in the Webquest with a
score of 75% on the selection part of the rubric.
Using the Establishing a Hydroponics Greenhouse Facility WebQuest and
other reputable resources, the Hydroponics class student will create a
PowerPoint presentation based on their research information with a score of
75% on the Powerpoint section of the rubric.
Using the Powerpoint document based on the Establishing a Hydroponics
Greenhouse Facility WebQuest, the student will present their PowerPoint
presentation with a score of 75% on the presentation section of the rubric.
While participating in the WebQuest project, the student will work
cooperatively with students in their group, by using good listening skills,
working effectively, and not causing distractions, with a score of 75% on the
cooperative learning section of the rubric.

UTILIZE MEDIA AND MATERIALS
 WebQuest: (Accessed by Computer with Internet Capabilities) The
Establishing a Hydroponics Greenhouse FacilityThe WebQuest will be used to facilitate a cooperative learning
approach to consideration of factors of establishing a hydroponics
greenhouse.
 Other Reputable Resources: Library materials on reserve and other
resources can be used by the students to find more information about
hydroponic greenhouse components.
 PowerPoint: This software will allow the students to create a visual
presentation for the class based on the information gathered from the
WebQuest and other resources
 Rubric: The rubric will be explained and discussed in class, some
changes may be made after discussion with students.
REQUIRED LEARNER PERFORMANCE
1. The Learner will cooperatively work with the other assigned students
in their group. (heterogeneous grouping and grouped in 3’s)
2. The teacher will pass out the scoring rubric. TLW have an
opportunity to discuss grading criteria and will have input about
changes. (if needed)
3. TLW work on their part of the Webquest. (as decided by their group)
4. TLW compare and analyze types of greenhouse structures, or
greenhouse controls and operating systems, or equipment and tools.
(group decides which student researches each section)
5. TLW compile their information with the other group members’
information to form a basis for a PowerPoint presentation.
6. TLW prepare their part of the PowerPoint Presentation. ( the group
decides on each student’s job) The three jobs are writer, designer, and
checker)
7. TLW present their part of the PowerPoint Presentation (decided upon
by the group) and will answer questions accurately.
EVALUATE AND REVISE
Students: The student will be evaluated according to the rubric discussed in
class.
Lesson: The teacher will ask the students questions to check for
comprehension and applicability to real life situations.
Teacher: The teacher will decide if the objectives have been satisfactorily
met. If problems were encountered, how could they be corrected?
According to results of the lesson, can revisions be made to reflect
improvement?
