The revenge of Alexander Ngai Chan Yat Kwan 2G (4) Once there was a ghost-catcher, no ordinary ghost-catcher. A man of cunning and daring who lived under a bridge at the edge of Kowloon City. Mr Alexander Ngai had his wooden sword and yellow paper ready to catch the notorious vampire, the dreadful Harrison Ho. Ngai would never forget last year’s Hungry Ghost Festival when in a battle of the swords, Ho struck out and sliced off his little finger. ‘Just as I was getting ready to catch him, he almost killed me,’ thought the ghost-catcher. This Halloween, Ngai was determined to stab the Shau Kei Wan vampire through the heart. Either when that horrible vampire was apple bobbing or trick or treating. Ngai would disguise himself as a skeleton and follow the vampire to Lan Kwai Fong apple-bobbing competition. The plan for revenge was perfect. Ho had plans, big plans. This Halloween he would suck seven thousand litres of blood --- enough to last him up until the Ching Ming Festival. ‘I will suck the blood of every Hong Kong apple bobber. I will go trick or treating and show them my fangs for fun. Ha ha ha…’ He laughed wildly. At 8:00 p.m., the people in Hong Kong started to gather in Lan Kwai Fong. ‘Wow! There are so many people even now! Look at that man dressed in a skeleton suit, he looks really funny! Looks like I am going to have a big feast tonight. Ha! Ha!’ Ho wickedly sneered under his breath. At 9:30 p.m., Lan Kwai Fong was already thronging with lots of people. Ngai was desperate to find the cunning vampire. ‘In half an hour the Apple Bobbing Competition will start, and if I still can’t find him, lots of people will…’ Ngai sighed. ‘Welcome to Lan Kwai Fong. Tonight is Halloween night, and we are going to hold an Apple Bobbing Competition. Will those who are interested in it please line up here and register? Thanks.’ A voice boomed out when Ngai was still finding Ho. ‘Oh no! It is already 10 and I still cannot find Ho. Come on, where is he? Oh! I can see him now. He is registering, let me register too, so that I can kill him when he is apple bobbing.’ Ngai thought. ‘Okay, now. Tonight we have 16 competitors, and each time there will be two people competing in a small race. The person who wins can upgrade and challenge the winner in the other small race. Now, the first round, Mary the Witch and Harrison the Vampire, which they call themselves. Ready, one, two, three, go!’ Mary tried very hard on the smallest apple with her big mouth. Harrison moved near Mary. Mary didn’t notice and was still trying hard. Harrison moved nearer, one more step only then he could bite Mary. Suddenly Mary stood up straight again and a voice said, ‘Right, the winner is Mary. Mary, did you use a spell or what? Harrison, there is no need to be so upset. We will also give out a prize to the one who participated in this competition, a wet apple! Thank you for your participation,’ praised the organiser of the event. ‘Next pair please. Alexander the skeleton and Peter the Wolverine.’ Alexander took a glance at Harrison, he was leaving, what would Alexander do now? ‘Sorry, I have something very important to do, I must leave now, very sorry about that.’ And he walked off, secretly following Harrison Ho. Harrison was very unhappy, he had lost the game and had sucked no blood. It was certainly a bad day for him. To amuse himself, he went to buy a big bag and went ‘trick or treating’. He hoped that he could collect some candies and snacks, and of course, blood. He walked around and found a little boy who was disguised as a cat. Harrison thought, ‘My mother said that the blood of the kids is always the most delicious, maybe I will try some.’ Harrison walked towards the kid hopefully and asked him, ‘Trick or treat!’ The boy answered, ‘I have no candies, maybe I will take a trick.’ Harrison shouted, ‘Great!’ and hopped towards the boy and tried to suck some blood out of the boy’s neck. But something strange had happened, the boy’s neck was so hard, so hard that when Harrison tried to bite through the skin, his fangs broke into pieces. ‘What the …’ Harrison was shocked and tried to move his mouth away from the boy’s neck, but he couldn’t do it. ‘Ha! Ha! Ha! Harrison, do you remember who I am?’ Harrison looked up by moving only his eyeballs, and saw a man disguised as a skeleton walking towards him, holding up his hand with only four fingers, the other hand with a wooden sword and some yellow paper. ‘I am Alexander, the ghost-catcher. Want to know why you can’t move? Look closer at the boy’s neck.’ Harrison looked at it and found yellow paper wrapped around his neck. ‘The yellow paper has broken your teeth and made you stand still. This technique is always useful when hunting. I knew that you would find some young person to suck his or her blood, so I found this boy to help me. Look at what you did to my hand.’ Harrison averted his gaze, choosing not to look at the severed finger. ‘Look at my hand!’ Ngai screamed. Ngai was furious and stabbed the wooden sword into Ho’s leg, Ho knelt down and looked at Ngai’s hand while some green liquid was bursting out from his leg. ‘You took my finger and now I will take your life, that’s revenge. Any last words? No? Then good bye.’ And Ngai forced his wooden sword into the vampire’s heart. The vampire looked at the sword and then at Ngai, then he exploded into pieces of bloody flesh. After the explosion, there was plenty of sticky, green liquid and some bloody, flesh on the ground, steaming. Ngai was very happy and said, ‘I often thought that vampires should not exist in this world. They are too cunning to live on earth. Right will always triumph over wrong.’ Then Ngai walked back to his home, the bridge.
