Creef1 Elyssa Creef K. Shimabukuro English 9 3 March 2016 Poem Essay “Uncoiling” by Pat Mora is a poem about a horrible storm that is described as an angry, mean women. The poem is a little on the darker side and is straight to the point. What makes this poem interesting to read is that it uses alliteration and personification. Alliteration is used multiple times in this poem. Some examples of how it’s used are in line twenty-one of the poem “to sleep, sand stinging her ankles” and in line fourteen “They sing lace lullabies”. Other then alliteration, the author uses personification. An example of personification is “tosses her hair dark with rain”. These literary elements, personification and alliteration, are both important because they give emotion to the poem and make it more interesting to read. Both alliteration and personification affect this poem because they make it more exciting for the reader to read. They make the poem fun and interesting to read. “Uncoiling” is mainly about how a bad storm and an angry woman are alike. I think this poem is great because of its darker side.
