The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet Act V Scene I Romeo describes a dream in which he was dead, but Juliet kissed his lips and breathed new life into him Balthasar tells Romeo that Juliet is dead Romeo writes a note to Montague and tells Balthasar he will return to Verona Romeo asks if there is a letter from Friar Lawrence for him, Balthasar says no Romeo goes to an apothecary to (a seller of drugs) buy poison so he can kill himself The apothecary say that he has just the thing for him but that selling poison is illegal (punishable by death) Romeo tell the apothecary that he is too poor to refuse the sale The apothecary agrees and gives Romeo the poison Notes ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ Scene II Friar Lawrence speaks with Friar John, who he had sent to Mantua with a letter for Romeo Friar John says that he was unable to deliver the letter because he was quarantined in a house with the plague Friar becomes upset and realizes that no one will be there when Juliet wakes up from her false death (he doesn’t know Romeo thinks Juliet is really dead) He plans to get Juliet from the tomb himself and sends another letter to Romeo to tell him what has happened.
