“Horses Across Hong Kong”- Horse Statue Design Competition Overview Background “Horses Across Hong Kong” - Horse Statue Design Competition was co-organised by The Hong Kong Jockey Club and The Hong Kong Youth Cultural and Arts Competitions to complement Hong Kong’s co-hosting of the Beijing 2008 Olympic equestrian events. It was aimed at arousing public interest in horses and equine sport, enhancing the Olympic atmosphere in the territory and building up the city’s image as an international Equine Capital. Details The competition comprised three categories, namely primary (P.1 to P.6), secondary (F.1 to F.7) and tertiary. A champion, first runner-up and second runner-up were named in each category as well as five merit awards. Each participant was required to design a Hong Kong-styled pattern for a life-sized horse statue to spread the Olympic spirit and promote Hong Kong as the Equine Capital. The champion design in each category has been painted on a horse statue. The competition received an overwhelming response with more than 13,000 entries received. The contest has set a new record in the number of entries received by The Hong Kong Youth Cultural and Arts Competition. Adjudication of the competition was completed in March 2008.
