English 10 First Semester Reflection*
Please answer all of the following questions honestly and completely either on
your computer or on a separate piece of paper.
This is due when the bell rings.
What are three things that we (either Ms. P, you, or us as a class) do well and should
continue to do? Explain.
I strongly believe that our English 10D class is one of the most creative and productive
sophomore English classes. The whole class was really strong at preparation of assignments,
creativity, and productivity out of short amount of time. Along with Ms.P's amazing support, we
were able to show our strength in those parts. We should really continue to bring those things
into class.
What are five things that we do poorly and should improve? Explain.
Although our class was one of the most awesome English classes, there are several parts
that we have to fix within our class. We should develop our skills in using time wisely,
cooperating with classmates, planning things ahead, doing things according to plan, and thinking
about each classmate. Because we lacked in these parts, there were several problems during class
such as point deduction and emotional struggle among classmates. Therefore, we should improve
on these things so that our class can be much better than what we were during the first semester.
Do you feel Ms. P‘s class policies are fair and have been applied fairly to everyone? What
changes would you recommend?
Ms.P’s polices are fair and they make students to actually work on what they are
supposed to do. I’m profoundly satisfied with current polices of Ms.P in her class.
What were your favorite lessons/activities? Explain.
There were lots of lessons and activities that I enjoyed throughout the whole first
semester. However, if I had to choose the most favorite one, I would choose a Shakespeare play.
I played a role of Othello in the play of Othello. Making our own play with classmates was truly
interesting despite the fact that we had some conflicts within the group during the process of
making the play. Play was another approach of understanding the Shakespearean play better.
What were your least favorite lessons/activities? Explain.
I think the activity I enjoyed the least was literature circle. As we were doing several
literature circles, we started to feel similarity in things that we say for every literature circles.
Basically, we felt that we are kind of repeating what we said from previous literature circles.
Therefore, we should learn how to make literature circles more productive and creative.
What lessons/activities taught you the most? Explain.
Play taught me the most among all activities that we did throughout the first semester.
First of all, play was fun to do it. It was an interesting mean to understand the play better.
Playing different characters and being in the actual situations caused me to know the mentality or
perspective of characters. It really helped me a lot with comprehending the book better.
What lessons/activities taught you the least? Explain.
The journals taught me the least. They provide good opportunities to think about deep
things in our lives. However, they sometimes interfere us with our learning.
Have you found this class enjoyable most of the time? Explain.
I really love being in English class. The topics that we cover during the class are never
boring. Even the boring topics, we make them interesting by doing numerous exciting activities.
Do you feel that you have learned more about English in this class? Explain.
Through the first semester of English 10 class, I became a student with more knowledge
about British literature. Although we covered a half of it, I feel like that I know everything about
British literature. I’m looking forward to things that we are going to learn during second
semester.
What about this class helped you learn? Explain.
Most of the assignments helped me to gain knowledge in British literature. They all
helped me to comprehend topics very well.
What about this class interfered with your learning? Explain.
Journals and DOLs… Even though we had big projects, we were supposed to do journals
and DOLs. Those things are quite time-consuming assignments. They also took more time from
us learning more things during the class, because we spend the first 10 minutes working on them.
How can technology be used to enhance the learning process in English? Please be specific.
I think technology is helpful, however, we don’t necessarily need technology for English.
It just helps students to be more organized and efficient.
Rate the following on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 = not at all and 10 = very much so:
Was the homework useful? 8
Was the homework difficult? 6
Were the journals/DOLs useful? 5
Were the journals/DOLs difficult? 8
Studying Beowulf was enjoyable and I learned a lot. 8
Studying Grendel was enjoyable and I learned a lot. 8
Studying Macbeth was enjoyable and I learned a lot. 9
Literature Circles were enjoyable and I learned a lot. 9
What three changes should we make in English next semester? Explain your rationale.
As I mentioned before, we should develop our skills in using time wisely, cooperating
with classmates, planning things ahead, doing things according to plan, and thinking about each
classmate. Improving on these parts will definitely make the class environment better.
What role do you feel you currently play in our class? Explain.
I think I’m one of the most active participants in our class. Whenever I face the chance to
participate or present things in front of class, I always love to be a part of it. Also, I make the
class environment more active by making some jokes.
What role would you like to have in our class? Explain.
I would like to be one of the most active and helpful students in our class. During the first
semester, I strongly believe that I was one of the most active participants of the class. However, I
realized that sometimes I distracted the class by being too active. Thus, I need to learn how to
control myself from being too active during class so that I can be a helpful student in class as
well as an active student.
Overall, what grade would you give our class? Explain.
I would give our class grade of A-. Our class is a class with enthusiasm, creativity and
productivity. It makes our class one of the best English classes in our grade. However, we lack in
several parts as well. So, grade for our class would be A-.
Is there anything else you would like Ms. P to know?
I just want to thank Ms. P for supporting and caring for us so much. Without the support
of Ms. P, we wouldn’t be able to accomplish the things that we’ve done during the first semester.
