Archetypes Project
**Final Due Date: Thursday, December 17**
Objectives:



Practice using the research process
Define a common archetype
find examples of the archetype in both fiction and real-life, using evidence to support
your claims.
Research
1. With a partner, you will be using both print and electronic resources to research an assigned
archetype, following the guidelines for the research process given to you by your teacher.
2. You will choose 3 figures that represent your archetype and find information on each figure.
 One character from Greek mythology
 One comic book/movie character
 One real-life person
3. There are specific criteria you must find for each person. You are responsible for finding
information on five of the eight criteria listed below:
a. Strengths
b. Weaknesses
c. Goals
d. Enemies
e. Location
f. Personality/Temperament
g. Symbol(s)
h. Role models/Influence
4. You must have bibliographical information (title, author, etc.) for EVERY source.
5. You will use this information to create a final product that consists of 3 parts.
1. Tri-fold Poster
***THIS WILL COUNT AS A QUIZ GRADE***
With a partner, you will create a 3-part poster that defines your archetype and compares and
contrasts your three figures.
Your poster MUST include:
1. Name of your archetype
2. Qualities/definition of archetype
3. 3 figures that represent your archetype:
 Greek mythology character
 Comic book/movie character
 Real-life figure
For each figure, you must have the following:
a. Name of figure
b. Images associated with the figure
c. 4 of the 8 criteria listed above—these should be the same 4 criteria for
each figure to allow for compare/contrast
NEATNESS AND MECHANICS ARE IMPORTANT!
2. Props
As part of the poster grade, each partner is responsible for bringing a prop that represents
one of the figures on the poster.
Ideas for props include:
 Costumes
 Objects related to the figure
 Homemade 3D artifact
3. 4-Paragraph Essay
***THIS WILL BE A TEST GRADE***
On your own, you will write a 4-paragraph essay about ONE of your figures. You and your
partner must write about DIFFERENT figures. For example, one person may choose to write
about the Greek mythology character, and the other person may write about the real-life
person.
Your essay should follow this outline:
I. Introduction – must have a thesis statement; should include definition of your archetype
and background on your chosen figure.
II. Chosen figure - Use evidence from your research to explain how your figure fits the
archetype
III. Culture - Explain the impact this figure had in their culture: Were they a role model?,
Were they used to explain something or to reassure people?, etc.
IV. Conclusion - restate the thesis and summarize essay; leave the reader with something to
think about.
ESSAY SHOULD BE PROOFREAD FOR GRAMMAR AND MECHANICS.
