2014-15 St. Joan of Arc Physical Education and Health Term Paper Rubric All 7th and 8th grade students will complete two different reports for the 2014-15 school year. Each Student must write one paper per semester. The topics are: 7th Grade First Semester- Nutrition 7th Grade Second Semester- Exercise 8th Grade First Semester- Health/ Disease (must be approved by Mr. Kaiser) 8th Grade Second Semester- Fitness Plan for Future Each student will be required to turn in a hand written rough draft of their paper one month before final drafts are due. Each paper should include a cover page with the students name, grade, room number, and references used. Each paper must cite two references (include appropriate title, page number, volume, URL, website or pages used). Each report must be written in your own words using the citations you use to choose. The paper should be between 2-3 pages double-space in 12 times new roman font. Papers on Nutrition, Exercise, and Health/ Disease should follow the following format: First Paragraph- Overview of the topic (from an objective point of view) Second Paragraph- How the topic affects the world Third Paragraph- How the topic affects them personally and going forward 8th Grade Fitness Plans should follow the following format: First Paragraph- Future Plan for Healthy Eating/ Nutrition (include why) Second Paragraph- Future Plan for Exercise (include why) Third Paragraph- Future Plan for Healthy Living/ Preventatives of Disease (include why). Some examples may be avoiding toxins, avoiding drugs, staying up to date with new health studies, etc. Fourth Paragraph- Brief Conclusion Grading: Rough Drafts- 20 points Final Drafts- 100 points 25 points for first paragraph 25 points for second paragraph 25 points for third paragraph 25 points for cover page, correctly used references, conclusion (Fitness Plan only), and any mark down for major grammatical errors. Tips to a Good and Successful Report Plan ahead- don’t wait until the last day to work on the report. Follow the format given to you. See Mr. Kaiser if you have any questions.
