Welcome to Excalibur Driving School. Your child is now enrolled in the classroom portion of driver’s education.
Monday thru Thursday we have two classes a day. Our afternoon classes start promptly at 3:15pm and ends at 6:15pm
and our evening classes start promptly at 6:15pm and ends at 9:15pm. Our weekend class starts promptly at 10:00am and
ends at 1:00pm. During the summer we offer an additional class that starts promptly at 10:00am and ends at 1:00pm. We
operate under one simple rule: DO NOT REPEAT THE SAME CLASS TWICE. Classes can be taken in or out of order.
Missing a class is acceptable as long as you make it up later down the line. Please check classroom schedule on our
website. Minnesota state law restricts any student from taking more than one class in a given day. After classes 1-9 are
completed you must come to one additional full three-hour class to take our curriculum final. Your student will be
required to stay for the entire class.
After his/her 30 hours of classroom it will be necessary to enroll in the behind the wheel portion of driver’s
education. This is a Minnesota state law for people under the age of 18 who wish to obtain a driver’s permit. In order to
be enrolled in the behind the wheel portion the students behind the wheel fee of $325.00, unless you have a coupon, must
be paid in full on or before their 10th class. When the student’s behind the wheel fee has been paid they will be issued an
enrollment card (blue slip), which must be signed by the student in front of the instructor.
Scheduling of Behind the Wheel Instruction
Once a student has his/her permit and feel they are ready for a behind the wheel lesson they should call
Excalibur’s office at 952-944-6900. We do not have regular office hours; however, you may call us anytime. The only
time we do not answer the phone is if we’re sleeping or giving a behind the wheel lesson. If this happens, please leave us
a message and we will return it as soon as possible. Students will be picked up from home unless otherwise arranged.
You are only able to schedule one lesson at a time. Please plan your behind the wheel in advance. Depending on the time
of year we could be backed out 2-6 weeks. If a student needs to cancel a lesson you must give us at least 24 hours
advance notice or there will be a missed lesson charge of $80.00 NO EXCEPTIONS! The missed lesson fee also applies
if the student is not home when we arrive. We allow a five-minute waiting period to allow for time discrepancies. The
fee is also applied to a student that may be home but does not have his/her valid permit. A student’s first permit is a sheet
of yellow paper until the plastic card comes in the mail. Once the plastic card arrives the yellow paper becomes obsolete
and can never be used again. If a student loses his/her plastic card permit then you must go back to the exam station and
reapply for a duplicate permit.
Our promise to you
We will try our hardest to complete everyone’s behind the wheel lessons by the time they are ready to take the
road test. However, we do expect that parents and students meet us half way by planning out their behind the wheel
lessons in advance and not waiting till the last moment. Do not schedule your road test till after you have scheduled your
third and final behind the wheel lesson.
One-Year Rule
The entire program, including both the classroom and behind the wheel, must be completed within one year. The
one-year date starts on the first day of class if the student is 15 or on their 15th birthday if the student is 14 when starting
the class. Failure to complete within one-year will result in a $100.00 fee.
