CEP – Final Comment Report
Before joining the programme, my career objective is to be a research analyst in
an investment bank. After attending the workshops, my career objective is to be
an equity research analyst at an investment bank or a securities ho use, which is
about the same as what I had in mind beforehand.
I found that I have learnt quite a lot from the CEP workshops. For instance
during an interview I should make use of the escorting time when the interviewer
is leading me to the interview room, that is one should ask the interviewer some
questions to induce the interviewer to talk with you. Preparing a one minute story
to introduce myself is important. I also learnt how to answer some interview
questions, such as to describe my own strength and weakness and the role that I
would be when in a team. The mock interview workshop gives me an opportunity
to experience what a group interview will be like during my attempt to find a job
Concerning resume and cover letter, I have learnt how to write th e resume and
cover letter in a way that can show my competitive advantage, instead of just
describing what I did in university.
Through doing the industry research, I get to know more about the industry,
especially concerning investment banks, dealers, funds and rating agencies which
I am not familiar with. I have a chance to discuss thoroughly with my group
members on the topic which we have chosen. The knowledge would definitely be
useful in the future, not only for interviews, but also for my career. A fter the job
research, I am more informed about the job nature of the most common jobs in
the finance industry. This could provide a guideline for me when I apply for jobs
in the future, with my interests and skills in mind.
Through the weekly business reading presentations, I have got the habit of
reading business magazines and newspaper. Every week I had the chance to meet
with my group members to share an article which each of us have found. I learnt
2
quite a lot by listening to other classmates’ presentation. Keeping up with this
habit is important in order to keep myself update with what is happening in the
finance industry. I can also improve on my writing skills as the articles provided
me with a chance to learn new vocabulary and useful phrases.
Through doing the group presentations, I have become more confident in doing
presentations. I learned that practicing the presentation a few times before the
real presentation is important as my group members can tell me what mistakes I
have made and how I should remedy on them. By practicing I could deliver more
naturally and confidently. I have also learnt some brilliant presentation
techniques from other groups as well.
To conclude, participating in the programme has definitely benefited me. It not
only trained my presentation skills but also induce me to build up a habit of
reading newspapers and magazines.
