Summary of the broad purpose of the position, and its responsibilities/duties ___________________________________________________________________________________________ The Manager, Speech Pathology is accountable for the provision of effective leadership to direct, develop and manage Speech Pathology service at Lyell McEwin Hospital. The Manager is responsible for facilitating the ongoing development of an integrated Speech Pathology service, which will provide a high quality, cost efficient and comprehensive service. The Manager will actively contribute to divisional management strategies in a teamwork approach and will act as a team leader of a multidisciplinary clinical services team. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ 2. The incumbent liaises with other Allied Health staff, medical and nursing staff, nominated Business Manager, other department or divisional directors in order to provide optimum outcomes for complex cases and integrated services. The Manager, Speech Pathology may undertake divisional roles or tasks as delegated and may act in the place of the Director Allied Health, LMH. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ 3. May be required to work at any site within the Central/Northern Adelaide Health Service. Current S.A. Driver’s licence and willingness to drive a government vehicle is essential. Home visiting may be required. Occasional out of hours work and participation in weekend on call roster (via mobile phone supplied by the department) will be required. Policy Development, Service Planning and Evaluation The Manager, Speech Pathology LMH is responsible for developing, ensuring and maintaining a comprehensive Speech Pathology service for the communities of Lyell McEwin Hospital by: Working with the CNAHS to assess and determine the changing needs of the LMH region to ensure the effective and safe delivery of Speech Pathology services. organising, developing and evaluating the use of all aspects of physical, human and financial resources available to the service. developing and implementing a health outcomes approach to resource allocation, ongoing continuous quality management and customer focused service development in conjunction with divisional needs. ensuring and determining the continual development of policies and procedures for the Speech Pathology service in consultation with the Director Allied Health Division LMH, and ensuring that staff are fully informed of and supported to comply with such procedures within the Speech Pathology service. fostering innovative practice. participating in the development of service agreements with customers. preparing and contributing to submissions in relation to Speech Pathology service development needs and resource requirements D:\106755536.doc 3 JOB SPECIFICATION (cont) Financial and Clinical Activity Management The Manager, Speech Pathology LMH in collaboration and consultation with the Director Allied Health is responsible for the effective and efficient financial management of the Speech Pathology service by: contributing to the operational efficiency of the divisional information system and providing, analysing and interpreting financial and clinical activity data for DHS and LMH requirements. managing service priorities and resource allocation within the limits of available funding according to Central Northern Adelaide Health Service (CNAHS) Delegations of Authority. Monitoring and evaluating the productivity of the department. consulting with the Director Allied Health Division LMH on financial and clinical activity matters pertaining to Speech Pathology services. Human Resource Management The Manager, Speech Pathology LMH in collaboration and consultation with the Director Allied Health is responsible for the human resource management of the Speech Pathology service by: promoting a teamwork approach to the delivery Speech Pathology services. developing appropriate job and person specifications relevant to functions and responsibilities of the service. ensuring the recruitment, placement of staff according to the departmental and allied health and clinical service requirements. implementing, evaluating and reviewing a comprehensive performance management program for all staff within the Speech Pathology services. identifying staff training needs relevant to individual and departmental needs, and promoting access to appropriate levels of education and training. liaising with staff and Allied Health Director regarding medicolegal issues and patient complaints. ensuring adequate supervision of staff and delegating authority to supervisory staff as appropriate. Clinical The Manager, Speech Pathology will be responsible for the delivery of a high standard of clinical services to the LMH by: providing consultancy and advice to the Speech Pathology staff on service development issues. fostering innovative practice. participation in departmental inservice education programs, literature reviews, clinical and management courses, seminars, workshops, conferences and relevant courses of study. providing clinical services to a (defined) case load. acting as a resource to staff in their area of clinical practise. assisting and directing staff in clinical priority setting and resource utilisation, and advising the Director Allied Health. contributing to a coordinated approach to patient care services within LMHS by networking and liasing with key stakeholders. Teaching and Research The Manager, Speech Pathology LMH is responsible for a clinical teaching and research focus within the Speech Pathology service LMH by: developing and participating in educational programs delivered to Speech Pathology and other health disciplines liaising with universities to coordinate and be responsible for students placements directing, facilitating and participating in research activities within the Department, or jointly with other departments, by developing submissions in line with the hospitals’ Research and Ethics Committee protocols.
