Guidelines
The purpose of a special occasion speech is to INSPIRE. Special occasions include
weddings, grand openings, birthdays, retirements, anniversaries, and christenings. You will
be writing a graduation speech for the class of 2008. DUE ____________
Make sure to:
 Praise your class.
 Highlights accomplishments for class members.
 Call to mind good memories and fun times
 Try to mention as many people as possible including a particular class, classmates and or
teacher(s).
 To inspire and uplift the audience
Requirements
Time: 3-4 minutes
Anecdotes (little stories) are the essence of this type of speech.
Your audience wants to
hear stories about themselves, their classmates and even some teachers.
The tone of this speech is POSITIVE.
You will need to spend a considerable amount of time interviewing people to gather information.
It is advisable that you start with a list of prepared questions. Start talking to people and taking
notes now.
