Unit 4: Crime and Deviance, Theory and Methods
There are 2 sections – choose the CORRECT one, Crime and Deviance (should be section A), and
answer all the questions in that section.
Time allowed: 2 hours
Maximum marks: 90
Time per mark = max 1 1/3 min.
Questions with more than 12 marks should be answered in continuous prose and you will be
marked on your ability to use good English, to organise information clearly and to use specialist
vocabulary where appropriate.
Section A – Crime and Deviance
You will be given 1 item to consider and which will help you answer the questions.
01 crime (15 marks)
02 crime essay (21 marks). Spend approximately 45 mins on questions 01 and 02
03 and 04 and methods in context – apply your knowledge of methods to crime
03 definition (3 marks)
04 short question (6 marks) These two may be combined in a 9 mark question
05 method in context with reference to provided item(15 marks)
Spend approximately 30 mins on questions 03,04 and 05
06 Theory and Methods essay (33 marks)– draw on examples from any area of sociology
Spend approximately 45 mins on question 06
