Anthem Final Project Presentations will begin: Thursday, January 7th & Friday, January 8th Worth 50 points Directions: Choose one of the following options for your final project for Anthem. Projects will be graded on effort, creativity, how well you demonstrate your understanding of the novel, and how well you complete all facets of whichever option you choose. Variations on any of these options must be pre-approved. 1. The Mixed CD/Playlist: Make a ten song mixed CD or playlist for Equality or Liberty. In a letter to the character, explain why you are including each of the ten songs. Each song should have an in-depth description as to why you think he/she would like it, using evidence of the themes, changes, and symbols that the character explored through the novel. Requirements: 10 songs (artist/song title) on CD/Playlist, a detailed explanation for each, use of lyrics to explain your rationale, and a cover for the CD. 2. Equality/Liberty 10-15 Years Later: Write a piece of short fiction in which you join Equality or Liberty’s life ten, twelve, or fifteen years after the story ends. Try, as best you can, to replicate Equality or Liberty’s voice. Use what you know about the character, his/her past, his/her evolvement, etc. to guide your predictions. Requirements: Title page, 4 page minimum, typed, double-spaced. 3. Graphic Novel/Comic Book: Recreate the story in a graphic novel (i.e., comic book) format. Choose the most important scenes-in your view-and tell the story of Anthem. Requirements: a graphic novel/comic book including the events and themes of the novel, an introduction where you explain what you tried to capture in your recreation and a demonstration of effort through a quality piece. 4. Finding Rand: Interview the author. Imagine that you have been granted an interview with Ayn Rand. She invites you into her home and promises to thoroughly answer five questions. In your write up for People magazine, you will want to explain what her house looks like, how she looks when she greets you, if she has any pets, etc. Then, you will write your five questions and her answers. Lastly, you will write a conclusion. This will include your impressions of the author or any interesting facts that you learned from the interview that were not mentioned in your five questions. Requirements: Title of article, introductions, five questions with thorough and thoughtful answers, and conclusion. 5. Artistic Representation: Create a visual representation of your impressions about the novel. You may draw, paint, build, sculpt, etc. Requirements: Visual representation and written 1-2 page, typed, doublespaced explanation of what you created and what it shows about your understanding of the novel. 6. Write and Perform an Original Song: Many songs have been written as tributes to other people-real and fictional. For example, Joni Mitchell to Bob Dylan, Dire Straits and Indigo Girls to Romeo and Juliet, etc. You will write a tribute song to Equality. Requirements: Your song should demonstrate a clear understanding of his life and struggles. You will be expected to perform your song for the class. 7. Design an Anthem T-shirt: Choose words/slogans/images and design and create a prototype for a t-shirt. Requirements: Sample t-shirt with a written 1-2 page (typed, double-spaced) explanation of the colors and other materials that you used. Explain why you chose the words/images and who you would market your shirt to and why. Each student will be expected to present his/her project to the class. Names will be drawn by lottery to determine the order of the presentations. Failure to present your project will result in a points deduction from your final grade. As always, ten points per day will be deducted for projects submitted past the due date.
