Name__________________ “We Didn’t Start the Fire” Billy Joel has often said that he wanted to be a history teacher at one time and that his song "We Didn't Start the Fire" is tribute to this. He spans about forty years of U.S. history in the song, “We Didn’t Start the Fire”. This song addresses and synthesizes events from the time period 1949 until 1989. Since the song ends with the events from 1989, one of your tasks is to update the song by addressing the decades starting with 1990 and 2000. Use the same format from the original song. Be sure to mention events that fit the tempo of the song. Be prepared to perform your song with your group – live or make a video! Writing Assignment 1.
