Speech Choice For this speech you have a choice for what speech you will do. Below you will find the choices with examples for possible topics. Time minimum for all of the following speeches is 3 minutes. Remember what happened if your informative or persuasive wasn’t at least 5 minutes? Yup, same here. You may make and use visual aids for this speech. You will need to have an outline when you give your speech that you will turn in. 1. Entertainment Speech: A speech that follows the 3X3 outline, whose purpose is to entertain on a topic that can be political or fictional in nature. Examples of Topics: multi-tasking, confusion about religion, energy drinks, evolution of the geek, why Ronald McDonald will be the next president, Barbie, the discovery of chocolate, talent shows, the real reasons we’re in war Example Thesis: The evolution of fashion can no longer be ignored: first the fashion of the 60’s, second the fashion of the 70’s, and third the fashion of the 80’s. 2. Question/Answer Speech: A speech that follows the 3X3 outline, whose purpose is to pose a question and answer it with three reasons in the body. There is no need for research; this can be all opinion. Examples of Questions: Is it okay that students cheat? Should students be able to text in class? Is violence the answer? There is a list to look at for ideas. Example Thesis: (Should people be able to clone themselves to later use their clone’s organs to save their life?) The answer to this critical question is clearly, no for the following reasons. 3. Eulogy Speech: A speech that follows the 3X3 outline, whose purpose is to pay respect to the dead by recognizing what they have done in their lifetime. This might need research if you are not sure of all the accomplishments for the person you are eulogizing. The person can be dead or alive, real or fictional. Examples of People: President Bush, Britany Spears, Dr. Suess, Malcom X, Oprah, Outkast, Winston Churchill, Kermit the Frog, Lindsey Lohan, Dick Cheney, James Dean, Audrey Hepburn, John Lennon, Elvis, Marlon Brando, Ben Franklin, Albert Einstein, Morrie Schwartz, Napoleon Sample Thesis: We are here today to honor the early death of one of the most beloved members of our society, Big Bird. 4. After Dinner Speech: A speech that follows the 3X3 outline, whose purpose is to address the members of a real or fictional company/organization after dinner. Examples of Topics: the negative effects of bottled water (Water Association), brunette club, energy drinks, car club, state museum, JDRF banquet, sports banquet Sample Thesis: audience of sumo wrestlers: (Wasn’t that ten course meal delicious? Graduation Speech: A speech that would be given at your high school graduation. This might not follow the 3X3 outline, but it should definitely have a theme about your experience at high school.
