Seminar Topics – Crime and Punishment through the end of Part IV
Write at least 150 words (not including your quotes) in response to each question. Include
at least three pieces of textual evidence (ie quotes) to support each response. Must be
typed for credit.
1. How might Sonia, Porfiry, Svidrigailov, and Razumihin be seen as pieces of a
puzzle which together make up Raskolnikov?
2. What is the importance of biblical allusions, especially the allusion to
Lazarus, and how does these contribute to the novel’s theme(s)?
3. Examine Part IV, Chapters V-VI – Raskolnikov’s encounter with Porfiry - and
how it affects him.
