Persuasive Essay Work – Final Body Paragraph into the Closing It’s important to transition from your final body content reason paragraph into your closing paragraph Be sure to RESTATE all the REASONS you wrote about in your body paragraphs from the paper (remember that each body paragraph was about only ONE reason – with appropriate details, examples, etc. to prove your case) End your paper strongly AND be sure to have your LAST sentence of the paper (also called the last sentence of your closing paragraph) RESTATE THE POSITION STATEMENT – This is called your “CALL TO ACTION”) Body Paragraph #3 (for the reason of “respect”) As if safety weren’t enough on its own to ban hats from a school building, one should consider the whole “respect” issue at hand. There are many folks who believe that wearing a hat in any building shows a lack of respect for the building itself. The inside of a school is already considered a nice shelter from the possible bad weather (rain, snow, sleet, wind) and bright sunshine, so there would be no need to wear a cap inside to protect one from these elements. Typically the inside of a school has a steady, comfortable climate with nothing that will mess up a person’s hair, nor are lights on the inside of a school usually too bright to blind someone. Hats are simply just not needed. Not wearing a hat inside a school for these reasons shows a respect for the comfortable confines of that building. Since one wouldn’t wear a hat inside a school due to all these reasons, the teachers and other personnel (“hosts/owners”) could also entertain their guests (“students”) and be able to enjoy their company with more of a “formal” approach; therefore, because it a long-standing belief by some that hats worn inside a building show a lack of respect toward a host/owner, this is yet another aspect of the respect issue. A hat tends to usually look “casual” in appearance and can be seen as sloppy to some, so a host/owner of a building would be able to be in the company of someone who is showing respect to the host by not wearing a hat and presenting themselves with a neat, groomed, respectful appearance. There are also some folks who have a belief that the more formal and neat one appears, there is a more formal, serious approach to performing a task – such as the serious business of teaching/learning! Since teaching/learning are the business of a school, and the interior of a school building is free from inclement weather and excessive brightness, students – out of respect for the school and the teachers/staff – should simply not be allowed to wear hats! Closing Paragraph (transitioned from the reason #3 – “respect”) Respect is such a huge part of the whole teaching/learning process of a school, and all those people in this process deserve each other’s best when it comes to appearance and attitude. Hats simply tend to lend themselves to a more informal display of each of those traits, and when you add in the safety concerns that accompany the wearing of a hat inside a school building due to the lack of respect and courtesy of some who thinks it’s okay to take someone else’s hat, then you have a recipe for disaster inside a school building. The only “disaster” that should take place inside a school is when students don’t learn, and, unfortunately, the wearing of a hat in school can lead to this; therefore, hats should not be allowed inside a school building! (In the above closing paragraph, I transitioned from the “respect” body paragraph. By doing that, I already “restated” that reason, so all I had left to do was “restate” my reasons of “safety” and “teasing”; then I would need to “restate my position statement” – which is the CALL TO ACTION - as my last sentence of the paragraph/paper. Along the way, I also gave a couple more minor sentences dealing with “BK” – background knowledge – to further make my point. Hopefully my paper at least made the people who would allow hats in the building at least see/hear other points that maybe they didn’t know about before and make them at least understand where I’m coming from. Maybe – JUST MAYBE – a few of them might even change their mind )
