Course Reserves Library @ Mt. Wachusett Community College Search course reserves by the name of the Professor/Instructor, or by the Course Name. Course reserves are shelved behind the Circulation Desk at the MWCC Library. Other Searches Library Catalog Other searches available through this button include call number searching and ISBN searching. The Mt. Wachusett Community College Library Catalog is an online resource that provides access to the holdings of the MWCC Library, as well as the holdings of other libraries in the Central/Western Massachusetts Automated Resource Sharing (C/W MARS) network. Access to the catalog is available from any computer with a connection to the World Wide Web. Truncation In addition to providing information about the Library’s 60,000+ books, and hundreds of journals, records, audiocassettes and videos, the online catalog also allows the user to request books from other libraries, renew books and review course reserve lists. From the main menu Getting Started From the Library’s webpage http://library.mwcc.edu click on Catalog. Searching Keyword Search (recommended search) This search will look for your keyword(s) in the title, subject, organization and note fields. Type a word or phrase, or combine words with and, or, near, or and not, then click Search button. Example: turtles Example: asthma and children *Click Help for additional search tips Author Search Type the name of an author, composer, or performer with the last name first, then click Search button. Example: gates, bill Example: shakespeare Type the name of a corporation, organization, or performing group in direct order. Example: general electric Title Search Type as much as you know of the title of the book, video, audiocassette, etc. Begin with the first word. When finished, click Search. Example: the green mile Example: for whom the bell tolls *If you don't know the first word of a title, use a KEYWORD search instead Author & Title Search Type the author or artist's name (last name first) then enter words from the title, contents or summary notes. Finally, click Search. Library of Congress Subject Heading Search (not recommended) Type as much of the LC Subject Heading as you know, and click Search. Journal Title Search Use this search to see if the library subscribes to a particular journal or magazine. Type as much as you know of the title. Please note that a journal title search does not find individual articles. You would use one of the Library’s periodical databases to find articles. Example: new england journal of medicine *To find full-text coverage of a specific journal in a database, use the Find-A-Journal service, available as a link on the Library's webpage. When searching, in order to find all words with the same root, use double asterisks as a truncator. Example: school** finds school, schools, schoolbook, etc. Searching Other Libraries’ Catalogs Click on the Other Libraries link at the bottom of the screen. At the next screen choose to either search the catalog for all libraries in Central Massachusetts, all libraries in Western Massachusetts or choose to search an individual library catalog in C/W MARS. From a search results screen At the top of the list of results, use the pull-down menu to the left of the Search button, to select another library catalog, and then click Search. Or Search through all library catalogs in Central and Western Massachusetts by clicking on the C/W MARS UNION CATALOG button. Requesting Items from Other Catalogs To have an item (book, video, CD, etc.) sent to you from another library: 1. Click on the Request button available at the top of the record. 2. At the next screen, enter Your Name, Library Card Number and PIN (if you’ve never used the system before leave the PIN blank, and follow the onscreen instructions). 3. Finally, choose a Pickup Location. 4. Click on Submit Above Information. You will receive a phone call when the item has arrived. Viewing Your Circulation Record You can review your circulation record to renew books, to see the number of books you have checked out and their due dates, to determine if any books are being held for you, and to see if you owe any fines. To begin, at the main menu, click on the Log In button and follow the on-screen instructions, or pick up a bookmark at the Library that provides step-by-step instructions. Printing or Emailing While viewing a list of titles, mark the records you wish to print or email by clicking in the box to the left of each title. Once you’ve selected the desired record(s) on the page, click on the button marked Save Marked Records. Continue with this procedure until all records desired have been marked, then click on View Saved Records button. Then … To email, enter your email address and click on the Submit button. To print the screen of records you’ve chosen, click in the radio button to the left of the word Screen, and then click on the Submit button.
