Preface
It is very difficult for me to finish the final paper because my major is music and I
am not familiar with arts. Fortunately, the teacher allowed us to explore freely. I had
known Chang Ta Chien a lot since I was a child. Therefore, I decided to do a research
on him.
There are three Chapters in my final paper. In the Chapter one, I will tell you about
Chang Ta Chien's life, the important events in his career, his important influences in
art history and how people think about him. In the Chapter two, I will introduce the
Chang Ta Chien's painting-style and show you his famous paintings. At last, I have
my conclusion in the chapter three.
Through this final paper, I have to admit that my English writing ability is really
bad. Thanks for my teacher and my classmate. They provide very patient guidance for
my English writing. This is the first English report in my life. I am very happy after I
finish it. Thanks for everybody's help.
I think that I become mature by finishing the report. I not only make a big progress
in English but also know the great Chinese painter Chang Ta Chien more. And, I want
to be a artist as great as Chang Ta Chien. Therefore, I need to study hard to expand my
vision. And I promise that I will keep working hard to achieve my goal.

Chapter one：About Chang Ta Chien
Chinese painting has a long history and there are many important artists that had
played an important role in the history. Modern Chinese painter Chang Ta Chien is
one of them that makes us impressed a lot.
Therefore, in this chapter I will introduce the great Chinese painter Chang Ta Chien.
The first, I want you to know his life, The second, I want to tell you about the
important events in his career. The third, I also want to share you about the important
influence of Chang Ta Chien in art history. The forth, I want to tell you how people
think about Chang Ta Chien. The last is my summary.
Section one：his life
Chang Ta Chien was born in May 10th, 1899 and he lived in Neijang County,
Sichuan Province.
Chang Ta Chien's lived in a big family. There are ten members in his family.His

father engaged in educational work；his mother was a famous female painter. His
sisters and brothers have studied painting together with him, but Chang Ta Chien is
the most successful one.
Section two：the important events in his career
When he was only nine years old, he drew mountain, flowers and people vividly.
So everyone said he is a genius.
When he was 25, he hold first personal exhibition.
In 1933, the director who taught in Nanjing Central University asked Chang Ta
Chien to be a professor.
In 1943, he published a book《大風臨摹敦煌壁畫》. The book influenced a lot. For
example, it make artists and historians be interested in Dunhuang treasures.
In 1957, the key painting《秋海棠》let him get the gold medal in competition. After
that, he becomes famous.
In 1974, he graduated from USA Pacific Ocean University and he got a doctor
degree.
In 1983, he died of a heart attack
Section three：his important influences in art history
Chang Ta Chien got four important and special meanings in Chinese art history：
First, He integrated the painting skills of each school of past thousands of years,
and collected a large number of art works. He is a symbol of that period of time.
Second, because he was polished by the Dunhuang culture, he re-grasped the
colorful life of the Chinese paintings which were gradually losing their color in the
Song and Yuan Dynasties; he promoted the decorative effect of the painting art to its

upmost limit through his refined and gorgeous style.
Third, his style is compatible with the two characteristics of the bright green color
and water ink painting. Thus, among the professional painters and literati painting
school, he reached the position that nobody had reached since the Yuan, Ming and
Chin Dynasties.
Fourth, he inherited the tradition of painting life, absorbed new knowledge, gave
the tradition its new vitality, opened up personal style of the link splashes and color
splashes, and created a new era of Chinese landscape painting.
Section four：how they think about him
Hsu Pei Hung is a famous artist and
educator. Hsu Pei Hung's appreciation is
that Chang Ta Chien is：
「五百年來一大
千」. This sentence means he is really a
master for centuries.

Hsu Pei Hung is the administrator
museum of history. He also appreciated
that Chang Ta Chien is not only a painter
but also a calligrapher, writer and
connoisseur. Overall, he is perfect.
Section five：summary
Through his life, important events in his career, the important influence of Chang Ta
Chien in art history and how people think about Chang Ta Chien let me more
understanding of the famous modern Chinese painter.
He is not only talented but also very hard working. In fact, his painting career is
not very difficult, but he still do not give up. So, the International Art Society called
him a great painter in the world.

Chapter three：Chang Ta Chien's paintings
Through Chapter One, we know all of his life and his great careers. Of course, we all
admire him. Because of his talented and hard working, he is the most famous Chinese
painter.
Therefore, in this chapter I will study the Chang Ta Chien's paintings. The first, I
want to tell you about his painting style. The second, I want to show you his famous
painting. The last is my summary.
Section one：his painting style
Chang Ta Chien's creative style of art performance covered the painting in the
history of all the factions . When he was a young man, he is a fresh master in the form
of literati ink painting. When he was in middle age, he demonstrated refined and neat
style. When he was in old age, he showed unrestrained, forceful and brighter color.
Section two：his famous paintings

This is《江山萬里圖》, he started to paint it in 1952 and he spent five years to finish
it. 《江山萬里圖》 is special and big, the length is34 meter, and the height is1meter.
This is 《愛痕湖》. The length is 18.8 centimeter and the height is 67.8 centimeter.
In1965, Chang Ta Chien and his friend went to 愛痕湖. This lake impressed him a lot.
So, he captured the beauty of this lake in his painting.
Section three：summary
Through his painting-style and famous painting let me more understanding of the
famous modern Chinese painter.
I really like his paintings because I can understand what he meant from his paintings.
Therefore, it is helpful to my music by appreciate his painting.

Hsu Pei Hung is the administrator museum of history. He also appreciated that Chang
Ta Chien is not only a painter but also a calligrapher, writer and connoisseur. Overall, he is
perfect. Therefore, we can trough this words know that he is not only talented but also
very hard working. In fact, his painting career is not very difficult, but he still do not
give up.
（4）I will keep working hard to achieve my goal
I think that I become mature by finishing the report. I not only make a big progress in
English but also know the great Chinese painter Chang Ta Chien more. And, I want to be a
artist as great as Chang Ta Chien. Edison said：「Genius is one percent inspiration and
ninety-nine percent perspiration.」Therefore, I need to study hard to expand my vision. And
I promise that I will keep working hard to achieve my goal.
