Greece and Macedonia After the Peloponnesian War, Sparta took over the rest of the Greek citystates. All of the Greek city-states were weakened by the Peloponnesian War, and they did not fear Sparta like they used to. Some of the larger city-states were angry at both Athens and Sparta for ruining Greece and ending it’s Golden Age. Meanwhile, the Kingdom of Macedonia was to the north of Greece and watching. The other Greek city-states joined together and fought Sparta. They freed the Spartan slaves so that the Spartans had no food, and they killed the Spartan king in battle. Greece once again destroyed itself. The most powerful city-states left were all at war. As Greece grew weaker, the Macedonians grew stronger.
