Illustration Discussion

(60 points for THREE different illustrations and supporting written responses for each)

As the illustrator facilitator, you must choose THREE different important scene(s) or sequence of events, issues, or topics that you can visually illustrate by hand or with a computer. These may be drawings, maps, collages, organizational trees, or other appropriate visuals to show how one person, place, or event relates to the others.

Label your visuals clearly, if appropriate. On your own paper, type a description for EACH of your illustrations.

Next, write a detailed paragraph response for EACH illustration to discuss why you chose that scene/event/issue/topic, the importance of this to the story of the novel, and what the depiction helps you understand beyond the level of plot; include at least two pieces of textual evidence from the novel as support

(documented correctly following MLA style). These will be discussed with your group when you share each of the three illustrations.

As the language facilitator, it is your job to select for discussion especially significant examples of effective language, such as diction, imagery, metaphors, personification, rhetorical devices or appeals, as well as syntactical patterns, within novel. Examples chosen should be important, interesting, and/or used by the author in a unique way. Select three significant examples you want to share and discuss with your group. On your own paper, TYPE the language example and page number (documented correctly following MLA style) and then

How does the use of such language fit the story?

What images does this language evoke?

Why do you think the author uses such language?

As the literary facilitator, it is your job to review significant parts of the novel with your group. Consider passages that are pivotal, informative, descriptive, thought-provoking, confusing, or personally meaningful events. For EACH of the three passages, TYPE the passage, the page numbers and paragraph numbers of the selected passage (documented correctly following MLA style). Next, provide a TYPED detailed paragraph response that explains the following:

 the significance of the passage to the novel as a whole

 your reasoning for selecting it for discussion with the group, referencing at least two pieces of textual evidence from the selected passage.

Remember, you must choose THREE separate passages.

Discussion of Connections to the Novel

(60 points for two copied or printed and annotated articles that deal with separate issues and the written responses; works cited page for each article)

As the connector facilitator, it is your job to find connections between the novel and the real world. This means connecting the reading to current events found in newspaper or magazine articles. Find two articles about separate connection topics, make a copy or print each article and then annotate each one. You may use reliable

Internet news sources or actual newspapers or magazines. On your own paper, TYPE a detailed paragraph explanation of how each article connects to the novel. The paragraphs should include at least four pieces of textual evidence (two from the novel and two from the article); document correctly following MLA style.

Include a works cited page as well to document the source information for each article.
