Poem #6 Narrative Poem “The Raven” – pg. 940 Complete questions 2, 3, 4, 5 2. Lenore was the wife who had died not long ago. The speaker’s relationship with Lenore seemed very strong because he missed her and could not get over her. 3. The two adjectives that the speaker uses in the first part of the poem are “weak” and “weary.” Two adjectives I would use to describe the speaker’s mood at the end of the story are “frustrated” and “irritated.” The speaker’s mood changes because a raven as come into his house and will not leave him alone. 4. The one word that the Raven says is “Nevermore.” I think the raven is just not able to say any other word, he can only say nevermore but the response fits the answers to the speakers questions. 5. My impression on the raven changes throughout the story because at first I just thought it was a bird that accidently flew into his house but then the raven started to serve a purpose and had a reason to be there. During the story I liked the raven because it gives the man company after his wife died so he is not lonely and sad anymore. I thought this poem was okay because it told a good story. I liked how the author used the raven; it was just there saying only one word, “Nevermore,” never really did anything. I believe it was just there to keep the speaker company after his wife died. He needed a companion and that’s what he got. I also liked the repition of words the author used. This artwork is by Yelena Schantz. I felt this picture is like the poem “The Raven” because the picture is dark and mysterious. When I look at this painting, I’m not quite sure why the raven is up there when it is lightening. Also it just creates different scenarios to the scene which is what the poem did.
