Personal Management

Sample

Personal Statement – The student explains that she identified and completed all tasks on
time. She also states that she was responsible for decisions and maintained regular
attendance throughout her internship.

Senior Venture – In the goals statement, the student identifies what she needs to do to
get good grades, apply for colleges, and make a plan to study nursing. In the CAM letter,
she explains what she will do to complete her project and research paper. The student
describes in the work sample reflection (research paper) that she kept track of what
needed to be done and completed everything on time. The student also completed her
work sample (hero essay) on time.

Internship – In the internship goals page, the student states her internship plans. The
internship timesheet and internship reflection include evidence that the student regularly
attended her internship on time and completed all her hours.

Work Samples – In all the work samples, the student identifies what needs to be done and
then plans, organizes, and completes each project. She completes all tasks on time.

Writing Sample – The student demonstrates responsibility for finding a topic of interest,
going to the lecture, and doing a write-up afterwards.
Problem Solving


Personal Statement – The student explains that she applied problem-solving skills when
she was assigned different projects. She describes deciding what project to work on and
how to complete it. She also identifies having alternatives in case her first choice did not
work out.

Internship – In the internship reflection, the student states that she decided what tasks
she wanted to complete from day to day and what questions to ask.

Work Samples – The yoga and stress management projects demonstrate the student’s
ability to identify problems/questions and to locate information for a solution. The student
states that she used problem solving by deciding what type of article to use for the
literature report work sample.

Writing Sample – The student explains that she determined what lecture to watch and
attended it, which demonstrates locating information to solve a problem.

Communication

Personal Statement – The student describes speaking clearly and accurately when giving
presentations or asking questions, as well as listening to directions very carefully in order
to complete tasks. She identifies giving and receiving feedback in a positive manner.

Senior Venture – In the CAM letter, she explains what she will do to complete her project
and research paper. The research paper demonstrates the ability to write a technical
report, as well as to locate, process, and convey information in a conventional, written
format. In the Hero Essay work sample reflection, the student states that she was clear in
her paper and provided ample reasoning and smooth transitions in order to make the
paper understandable.

Internship – In the packets section, the student explains that communication is a critical
skill for a labor/delivery nurse because there are many parties involved (e.g., patients,
doctors, fellow nurses). In the internship reflection, the student describes asking questions
and recording the information for later.

Work Samples – In the work sample reflection for the literature report, the student
mentions that she presented the topic to the entire class, speaking clearly during the
presentation. In the Stress Management and Mindfulness work sample reflection, the
student states she communicated effectively by giving clear explanations. In the Teach a
Skill to Class work sample reflection, the student explains how she listened to fellow group
members and presented clearly to the class. She also demonstrates communication by
writing a very thorough report about yoga.

Writing Sample – The write-up the student included on cancer was well written and it
accurately reported what she learned in the lecture.
Teamwork


Personal Statement – The student describes that she had to work in a team during
multiple projects. She demonstrates that she understands the importance of individual
roles and compromise while working in a group.

Internship – In the internship journals, the student discusses the various roles that people
have in a delivery room and how everyone works together to make sure the birth is safe for
the baby and the mother. In the internship reflection, the student writes that she worked
well with the nurses and that leadership is a valuable skill that she needs to improve on.

Work Samples – In the Teach a Skill to Class work sample reflection, the student explains
how she worked in a group to research yoga.
Employment Foundations
Location of evidence: Personal Statement, Senior Venture, Internship

Personal Statement – The student describes using her academic and technical
knowledge and skills in nursing when doing her internship and Senior Venture paper.

Senior Venture – The research paper demonstrates application of the student’s
knowledge in nursing that is relevant to her future career.

Internship – The packets section includes an outline of the organizational structure of the
hospital where the student interned. She identifies the parts of the organization, how they
work together, the appropriate dress, and the health, safety, and regulatory procedures

that the hospital maintains. In the internship journals, the student discusses the different
roles that individuals perform in a delivery room and the technology used (e.g., catheter,
epidural, monitoring equipment) to make the birth safe for the baby and the mother. In the
internship reflection, the student explains her ability to apply her previously learned skill of
taking vital signs during her internship. She also identifies that she dressed appropriately
for the hospital environment.
Career Development

Personal Statement – The student states that the skills she has acquired through various
classes and experiences have helped to develop her career interests.

Senior Venture – In the goals statement, the student identifies how to meet her goals for
the future. In the work sample reflection for her research paper, she describes how her
internship relates to her post-high school goals.

Internship – The cover letter and resumé demonstrate job-seeking skills. The internship
goals page states the student’s plans for her internship and how she will assess her
interest in the field of labor/delivery nursing. The packets section discusses the skills,
education, and training that will be valuable to her future career. In the internship journals,
the student explains that her experience in the labor/delivery unit made her rethink her
career interests. In the internship reflection, the student identifies how the specialized
knowledge and skills she has learned are critical to a nurse and that her career goals have
changed from an interest of working with babies in labor/delivery to that of working with
children as an oncology nurse.

Work Samples – In the Stress Management and Mindfulness work sample reflection, the
student describes that this assignment is pertinent to her future because now she has
information on how to adequately deal with stress in future career situations.


Personal Statement – The student describes her plans to graduate high school, attend
college, and pursue a career in nursing. The student identifies skills she learned that will
be valuable to her personal and professional goals (e.g., making decisions, addressing
problems, being clear and accurate when speaking with patients, parents, and colleagues).
She also reflects on what she learned during her internship and how these skills will make
her more successful in college and in her future career.

Senior Venture – In the goals statement, the student identifies a plan to study nursing.
The research paper is relevant to the student because she wants to pursue a career in
nursing, and knowing more about mothers and babies furthers her knowledge of the field.

Internship – In the cover letter and resumé, the student identifies her interests in the
nursing field and her plans to attend Oregon State University and then transfer to Southern
Oregon University for the nursing program. She lists the skills she acquired from
bloodborne pathogen training as well as the ability to take vital signs. The packets section
described skills the student observed during her internship and how they will be valuable to
her own work in the future. In the internship journals, the student discusses how the


