D-Day Lecture and Clicker Quiz Brandi Brown Overall Goal for the Lesson: Students will be able to state the date of D-Day. Students will correctly identify all major players of the D-Day Battle Students will be able to explain the preporation of D-Day (who the commander was, where it was located) Students will demonstrate to me they know the historical signfigance of the D-Day invasion. Students will navigate the People’s War website and find an appropriate account and bring it to class to read aloud. Description of classroom, grade level, and students: High School American History class. Block schedule set up. There are two students with special needs in the class, one has ADD/ADHD and the other has a visual impairment. Students are set up in rows with the teachers desk facing them from the front of the room. There are historical maps and posters along the walls for reference. Student Objectives for the lesson. Students will be given a lecture, and hand written notes Students will be able to correctly identify the main players of the D-Day invasion, its location, and date of the invasion. They will also be able to write a 5-6 sentence paragraph on the historical significance of the invasion (drawing form the personal accounts read aloud in class) Length of Lesson: This will occur in one Block schedule class. (2 hours long) Schedule of Activities: I will lecture on the D-Day invasion giving a short outline via powerpoint. Then we will find a personal account from the People’s War website (BBC) and read it aloud. The students will take notes they deem necessary. The last 15 minutes of class will be devoted to a short quiz over the days lecture via clickers, and a short writing assignment over historical significance. Prior to the lecture I will instruct the students to navigate the People’s War website and pick out a personal account from the D-Day invasion, we will take turns describing and reading these accounts aloud and discuss significance. The students will take hand written notes to aid in their studies and help them with the short quiz that will be given. Analyze public and political reactions in the United States to the events of the Holocaust (e.g., Nur PASS Instructional Technology Standards Standard 1: The student will demonstrate knowledge of basic operations and concepts. And make informed choices among technology systems, resources, and Assessments: How will these activities be assessed? The students will complete the clicker quiz as well as write a short essay (5-6 sentence paragraph) answering the historical significance question. Accommodations: How might the lesson need to be adapted for students with special needs? The students with special needs will be provided with extra time if necessary. There will also be a quiz made with enlarged print for my student with visual impairments. Materials Needed: A projector, clickers (20-25), Computer (with projector and internet access), If technology is down I will have a printed copy of a personal account from People’s War Website to discuss.
