Project Management Professional (e.g., Preparation for the PMP® Certification Examination) Overview This four (4) day PMBOK®-aligned course prepares you for PMP® certification examination and gets your project management skills to a “more advanced” level of performance. Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification has become the most recognized credential for the practice of the rapidly evolving profession of project management. This course prepares you for the PMP® certification examination offered through the Project Management Institute. Only people who have successfully demonstrated their mastery of the basic concepts of project management are allowed to use the PMP® designation. Increasingly, companies all over the world are recognizing the value that project management can provide to their corporate performance. The establishment of career paths for project managers has recognized this growing importance. PMP® certification is often a requirement for promotion within this structure. Special Features This course is a hands-on tutorial that advances your project management skills and abilities. It also prepares you to sit for the PMP® Certification Examination. During the session, attendees use an electronic “Test Bank” which exactly mimics the PMP ® Examination. Attendees can evaluate their overall scores and identify any weaknesses in the nine PMBOK® knowledge areas. In addition, an online review session is offered approximately two weeks after course completion. The online review session offers students the opportunity to clarify course material and to “refresh” on course content. This can be particularly useful prior to taking the PMP® Certification examination. The instruction approach includes lecture, case studies and class exercises. Extensive use of case studies and in-class exercises provide for active student involvement in practical use of course content. Case studies and in-class exercises are designed to develop and test attendees knowledge in areas, such as Critical Path, Earned Value and Expected Value, which must be learned in order to pass the PMP ® Examination. In advance of the course, registrants should order and review “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge PMBOK®-2000 Edition” from the Project Management Institute at pmi.org. Topic Highlights Each of the nine PMBOK® areas of knowledge is addressed as separate modules, and the five process groups. A brief presentation highlights the most significant aspects of each module. Participants then individually answer a series of questions from our electronic “Test Bank”. This electronic “Test Bank” exactly mimics the PMP® Examination with four multiple choice answers for each question. After each of these individual working sessions, the entire class reviews each question under the direction of our staff of PMPs. In this manner, both the content and format of examination questions become familiar to each student. From the results of proceeding on a module by module basis, participants will be able to identify weak areas that require more individual study. The last session is a mini examination taken from previous PMP® Certification Examination. This course covers the nine knowledge areas identified in the PMBOK®: PMBOK Overview Process Groups and Project Management Methodology Project Integration Management Project Scope Management Project Time Management Project Cost Management Project Quality Management Project Human Resource Management Project Communications Management Project Risk Management Project Procurement Management Audience Participants in this course should be managers and mid-career professionals who seek to further develop their project management skills. You should also be eligible to sit for the PMP® certification examination. It is assumed that participants have a working knowledge of the PMBOK® and the nine knowledge areas.
