Unit 1 Informational Writing Prompt

Life of a Slave

DUE: Thursday, November 14, 2013

It is difficult to put yourself into the shoes of another; sometimes it may seem impossible to understand what a situation feels like until you experience something similar. Of course we are not able to transport our physical being back in time, but we are certainly able to draw upon the knowledge of the past in order to reflect on the human condition and imagine what it must have been like to be faced with such adversity.

Your task: write a 5-paragraph research paper on one aspect of slavery.

I am including a list of possible topics. You may also write your research paper on the life of an African who finds themselves sold into the life of slavery.

Your research will need to come from a minimum of 5 sources

You will need to include a minimum of 3 quotations and explain their connection to your topic

Beware of plagiarism!!!! It is illegal to copy, word-for-word, the work of someone else! Paraphrase all information unless you are quoting a specific statement or detail

Teachers are quite aware of how you write. It will be obvious if the voice being read is not the your voice…I will be using the website: http:// www.grammarly.com/ Plagiarism _Checker

You will need to include a bibliography of the references used and works cited

Paragraphs should be a minimum of 7-12 sentences in length

If you type your final draft, it should be formatted as follows:

* 12-inch -Times New Roman font
