College Prep Poetry #6 Narrative Poem “The Raven” – pg. 940 Complete questions 1-6 1. I feel like the poems speaker is a curious person, but ends up going a little insane by the end of it. I think this because at first he is just curious about what the raven is doing at his house, and once the raven starts telling him about how his wife died he becomes hurt, angry, and mad. 2. A. Lenore is the speaker’s wife and she has died. B. The speaker’s relationship with Lenore is close because whenever the raven starts to mention that she is dead, his demeanor changes completely. 3. A. Two adjectives the speaker uses to describe his mood are quaint and curious at the beginning of the poem. B. Two adjectives I would use to describe the speakers mood at the end of the poem is woeful and pallid. C. The things that cause his mood to change are the raven because he keeps telling him that his wife is dead, and it keeps repeating “Nevermore.” 4. A. The one word that the raven speaks is “Nevermore.” B. I think it is answering to the narrators questions because how else would the speaker know that was what the raven was saying. 5. A. At the beginning the raven just seems like a nice quiet bird that perches above the door, but by the end it is like this demonic bird. B. The things that cause my impression to change is the tone of the poem as it progresses, and also how the narrator describes the bird throughout it. 6. I don’t think that it would have been as effective because parrots are these nice, colorful, repeating birds. It wouldn’t of been as scary or get the point across of the poem.
