DAY TWO- George Washington Read a book about George Washington and/or view a portion of a Discovery Education video. Make a list on chart paper as students’ share ideas learned. Students will make a foldable and draw/write about three things they learned about George Washington. President’s Day: Washington and Lincoln (15:00) Animated Hero Classics: President Abraham Lincoln (29:47) (Select appropriate amount of content to view.) Give students pennies and a magnifying glass to observe the penny’s attributes. Guide students to locate President Lincoln on the penny. Students will recreate a penny on a paper plate or do a rub art activity by rubbing a crayon on a piece of paper laid on top of the penny. DAY FOUR- Current President Place a picture of the current president on chart paper. Tell students that this is our current president. Read a book about being president and discuss the elections and how a person becomes president. 1 Alief ISD DAY FIVE: Students will write down one thing they learned about one of the presidents’ studies in this unit on a post-it note. The teacher will allow students to place their post-it note on the chart and share what they write with the class. Independent Practice: (Sinker) Provide students with a copy of the graphic organizer. The student will write one thing they learned about each of the presidents from the past as well as the current president. The students should use words and pictures. Then, in the last box, the class will come up with a summary statement about how leaders of the past and present have helped our country.
