Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” Response
Write a 300 word, double-spaced response of at least 2 paragraphs using Times New
Roman font, 12 pt.
The purpose of this response is to demonstrate that you
1. understand the allegory
and
2. can make connections between this ancient allegory and your own existence
First, write a developed paragraph in which you summarize the allegory. Your
paragraph should demonstrate that you understood what you read.
Then, review your notes from class. Add at least one more developed paragraph
in which you explain how the message in the allegory could apply to your own life. For
example, you could discuss how examining your assumptions about what is “true” can
lead to a more meaningful existence. Use specific examples (personal examples are
acceptable) to clarify your idea.
If any of the allegory is still puzzling to you, explain in detail what confuses you.
