HAAGA-HELIA BIT MATURITY TEST Maturity test The student may take the maturity test when the thesis content has been accepted by the thesis supervisor. The schedules of maturity tests are informed of on general test schedule (usually during the re-exams). Time will be reserved for 3 hours for the maturity test. The maturity test is written in English, and the contents and the language of the test essay are evaluated by the thesis supervisor. The contents and language of the maturity test must be accepted. If the BIT student wants the Finnish language clause to the BBA certification, he/she may write the thesis in Finnish. In that case the language of the test essay is evaluated by a communication teacher. The task of the maturity test is given by the thesis supervisor. The thesis supervisor shapes the topic so that an essay can be written about it. The heading is clear and does not resemble an examination question. The student gets at least the one and no more than three alternative subjects from which he chooses the one. The student writes an essay about the subject. As the reader of the essay, the student should think a person, who is familiar with the topic, but has not studied the problem area of the thesis especially. The student also can think that he is writing an article to a magazine of the field. So the student must not suppose that the reader has become acquainted with his thesis. Also the language evaluator must be able to understand the content. The heading of the essay has to be written in sight. The contents of the writing and the heading have to correspond to each other. The writing has to be a well organized wholeness. It must proceed relying on the text, not for example on the tables, schemes or pictures. In the writing there must be a beginning and an ending. The style must be matter style. The basics of spelling and the use of punctuation marks must be correct. The writing must be divided into parts. The sentences have to be whole and variable. There may be no bad mistakes of reference. The word order has to be unambiguous. The length of the handwritten essay is about four pages. The handwriting must be clear. A typed writing is from two to three pages, written on every row. If the maturity test is failed because of the language, student gets guidance and feedback on how to prepare for a new maturity test.
