Tech Questions 1.) Define hydraulics and pneumatics. 2.) Identify 2 important facts which will help us understand hydraulic system. 3.) Why is a hydraulic system considered a force system? 4.) What is the main type of liquid used in hydraulics/ 5.) Name and briefly describe 5 important uses (examples) of hydraulic from this video. 6.) Name and briefly describe 4 important uses (examples) pneumatics from this video. 7.) What is one of the key differences between pneumatics and hydraulics? Tech answers 1.) Hydraulics: the branch of science and technology concerned with the conveyance of liquids through pipes and channels, especially as a source of mechanical force or control. Pneumatics: the branch of physics or technology concerned with the mechanical properties of gases. 2.) Two important facts that help us understand hydraulic system is: - When a liquid is enclosed in a space and the pressure is applied to the liquid, the pressure is transmitted equally to all parts of the liquid. - It is hard to compress a liquid. If you try to squash a volume of liquid, you still have that same volume however hard you try to compress it. 3.) A hydraulic system is called a force multiplier because; if you make one of the 2 pistons much larger than the other then the larger piston can raise a larger load. The hydraulic system can therefore be called a force multiplier. 4.) The main liquid used in the hydraulic system is oil. 5.) - Hydraulic jack used for jacking up cars. - The brake system - Heavy machinery (Loader, Dumper & excavator.) - Hydraulic spreader - Hydraulic cutter 6.) – Pneumatic drill -Dentist drill -Pneumatic screwdriver - Bus door 7.) One key difference between hydraulics and pneumatics is all pneumatic tools are very loud, and all hydraulic tools are not very loud.
